A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE CALHOUN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL “SAINTS” BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 2004 CLASS AA STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND WISH THEM CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork with developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to be a champion in basketball, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that the Calhoun County High School “Saints” recently captured the 2004 Class AA State Basketball Championship title; and

Whereas, this is the third time that the “Saints” have clinched the state championship title and the team has participated in the past five consecutive state titles; and

Whereas, with an overall record of 252, the Calhoun County “Saints” went into the championship match with confidence and determination to once again claim the top title; and

Whereas, in addition to natural athletic ability and teamwork, skilled coaching and player dedication are also essential to winning, all of which was clearly evident with the Calhoun County Boys Basketball team; and

Whereas, this impressive level of competition could not have been accomplished without the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Zam Fredrick and his coaching staff; and

Whereas, out of the fifteen years that Zam Fredrick has been Head Coach of the Calhoun County High School Boys Basketball Team, the team has won fourteen consecutive regional titles; and

Whereas, the countless hours of practice, hard work, and sacrifices certainly reflect this superb basketball team’s determination; and

Whereas, the members of the 2004 championship team are: Theo Glover, Antoine Tyree, Demario Brown, Earnest Ellison, Henry Glover, DeAngelo Willingham, Zambolist Fredrick, Markest Davenport, Derrick Dwight, Jerome Bartley, Quincy Brunson, Tavarus Murphy, Andrew Johnson, Kevin Frazier, and Edwin Riley; and

Whereas, the students, parents, and school administration of Calhoun County High School have provided the support and encouragement necessary to achieve this highest level of consistency in boys’ basketball; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly commend these fine young men and especially Head Coach Zam Fredrick, along with his coaching staff, on their team spirit, enthusiasm, and their extraordinary achievements. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Calhoun County High School “Saints” Boys Basketball Team and coaches for an exceptional season and on capturing the 2004 Class AA State Basketball Championship and wish them continued success in the future.
