2009 Rock Valley Youth Basketball Tournaments

Girls: February 27 & February 28 (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)

Boys: March 6 & 7 (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)

The Rock Valley Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce the dates for the annual Rock Valley Youth Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments for 2009. We have enclosed the registration information and hope that you will consider participating in some March Madness here in Rock Valley.

Grade Divisions: 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th grade for both boys and girls tournaments. There will be a maximum of 12 teams in each age group for boys and girls.

All teams will be guaranteed (2) two games. You may use players in a grade lower to complete your roster. e.g.: Players in the 7th grade may play in the 8th grade division, but not in the 6th grade division. The roster must however, be comprised primarily of the grade in which the team is entered.

How to Register: Please return the attached registration form along with your registration fee. Also include the team’s full roster and team name. Fill out the form completely and return with your payment to:

Early registration is important to guarantee a spot in our tournament. When a division is filled, you will be placed on a waiting list. If you are unable to complete your roster now, send in the application form and entry fee immediately in order to reserve your place in the tournament and send in roster information before the tournament weekend.

Registration Fee: $100 per 10-player team with a $4.00 fee for each additional player over 10 on or before the deadline, or $120 after the deadline.

Purpose of the Tournament: This is an opportunity for boys, girls, coaches, parents, and volunteers to come together for the purpose of helping youth develop their basketball skills. It also provides a chance for teams and coaches to participate in exciting tournament activity.

Our mission is to promote wholesome fun and fellowship in a sportsman like manner. This tournament is designed for the enjoyment of each individual who has a part in it and is an opportunity to give something of value to our youth.

Tournament Details:

1.  All games will consist of two twenty minute halves with continuous running clock until the last (2) two minutes of each half. Then the clock stops on all dead balls or on the refs whistle.

2.  Three (3) time-outs per game will be allowed (30 Sec).

3.  You must provide your own warm up basketballs.

4.  All teams must have reversible numbered basketball uniforms. If you do not have reversible jerseys please bring two colored shirts.

5.  All tournament officials and supervisors are VOLUNTEERS, Please treat them as such. They are participating because they believe in the development of our youth.

6.  7th & 8th grade may only press to a 15 point lead. (Zone or Man Press)

5th & 6th grade may only press to a 10 point lead. (Man Press Only)

7.  Information on sites, times, and opponents will be forwarded to all coaches after registrations are received and grade level brackets filled.

8.  Pending the registration of enough teams, the boy’s and girl’s tournaments will begin on Friday night around 5:00pm and end Saturday night with the championship games in each division around 6:00. If however, there are a limited number of teams, the tournament will be held on just Saturday. This and all other updated information will be forwarded to you after registrations are received and grade levels filled.

9.  Note on the bottom of your registration form that we ask you to please rate you team’s talent level on a scale of 1-5. We do this to keep the brackets even and fair. Please be honest.

Trophies: Awards will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in each girls division.

Valuables: Please leave all valuables with a coach or parent. The sponsors and organization committee are NOT RESPONSIBLE for lost or stolen articles.

Liability: The Rock Valley Chamber of Commerce assumes no responsibility for accidents. Each player must be responsible for their own equipment. All players must be physically fit to play as approved by a physician or their parents.

Concessions: Concessions will be available at all tournaments sites.

NOTE: If you need to register more than one team, make a copy of the registration form attached and send it in with your other registration. THANK YOU

All-Star Teams: Absolutely no All-Star teams or any variations are allowed in our tournament. If we have any questions arise that a team is a select all-star team, they will be subject to immediate disqualification from our tournament with no refund. Please do not put our tournament committee into this circumstance and give us all the information on your team when you register so we have no questions. YMCA teams are allowed.

Dropping out of Tournament: If you have to drop out of the tournament at the last minute without proper warning to the tournament committee, your tournament registration will not be refunded. This includes going to State Tournaments.

Tournament Rules & Details:

Ø  All games will consist of two twenty minute halves with continuous running clock until the last (2) two minutes of each half. Then the clock stops on all dead balls or on the refs whistle. Overtimes will be 2:00 and the clock will stop the last minute of overtime. The second overtime will be sudden death.

Ø  Three (3) time-outs per game will be allowed (30 Sec), one extra for overtime.

Ø  Halftimes will be 3 minutes in all divisions.

Ø  You must provide your own warm up basketballs. All divisions will use a girl’s basketball.

Ø  Free-throws:

-all shooting fouls will be shot

-on the 7th team foul of each half, we will shoot 1-1

-on the 10th team foul of each half, we will shoot 2 shots

Ø  All teams must have reversible numbered basketball uniforms. Cut-offs, sweat-pants or other unorthodox style uniform will NOT be permitted.

Ø  All Technical fouls will result in the auto rewarding of two points to the other team and the ball-out-of- bounds. Any player or coach receiving a second technical foul in a game will be removed from that game and the rest of the tournament.

Ø  7th and 8th grade may press up to a 15 point lead.

5th and 6th grade may press up to a 10 point lead.

Ø  Players must compete in their own grade classification, with the exception that younger players may participate in older grade levels; a player may be on only one team in a class.

Ø  All teams are guaranteed two games.

Ø  Each team must supply a scorekeeper at the scorers table. This is a must! You may want to bring an extra person just to represent your team at the scorers table for each game your team plays.

Ø  Zone Defense: No Zone defense will be allowed in the 5th & 6th grade levels. You must stay within 10 ft of the person you are guarding. One warning will be given per team and the second violation will result in a team technical foul.

7th & 8th grade divisions will be allowed to play any defense they choose.

Ø  Games May Run Ahead Of Schedule—So Be Prepared. There will only be 5 minutes between games.
