Narrative

On Thursday, May 8, 2014, approximately 4:41pm, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a car vs. motorcycle crash which had just occurred. The location of this crash was on Hwy 89 about ½ mile north of Lake Lorraine Road in the Town of Richmond.

The preliminary investigation at the scene revealed the following: Both vehicles involved were traveling northbound on Hwy 89. A 2002 Honda Civic, operated by Evan M Welter, age 18, of Whitewater, WI, was stopped on the road. Welter was waiting for another vehicle in front of him to turn left into a driveway. A 2009 Yamaha Motorcycle, operated by Jordan R Vick, age 25 of Watertown WI, apparently failed to recognize that the traffic in front of him was slowing.

Vick crossed the centerline in an attempt to avoid hitting the Civic, but the oncoming southbound traffic forced Vick back into the northbound lane, where Vick laid the motorcycle down on its side. The motorcycle then rolled, throwing Vick into the Civic. Vick was not wearing a motorcycle helmet and suffered critical injuries.

Vick was transported by ground ambulance to a Janesville-area hospital with critical injuries.

The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit was summoned to the scene and the road was shut down for a few hours. The crash remains under investigation.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Whitewater Fire and Rescue, as well as Paramedics from Fort Atkinson, WI.
