A SENATE RESOLUTION
HONORING THE DISTINGUISHED MILITARY CONTRIBUTIONS OF GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE GOODWIN III, OF THE OFFICE OF THE ADJUTANT GENERAL OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS PROMOTION TO LIEUTENANT GENERAL ON APRIL 16, 2001, AND HIS ACCEPTANCE OF THE DUTIES OF SPECIAL ADVISOR ON MILITARY AND ECONOMIC AFFAIRS TO THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALABAMA.
Whereas, General Robert E. Lee Goodwin III, lately of the office of the Adjutant General of the South Carolina National Guard, joins the military department of the State of Alabama as Special Advisor on Military and Economic Affairs to the Governor of Alabama; and
Whereas, in that connection, he received a promotion to Lieutenant General on April 16, 2001; and
Whereas, his nearly thirty-year military career began in September of 1972 as an enlisted infantryman in the United States Army and has included service in the 25th Infantry Division, 9th Infantry Division, and the military departments of Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, and California; and
Whereas, General Goodwin has combined his significant military history, training, and experience with a civilian education that includes management training programs at Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management; and
Whereas, he has earned a distinguished reputation in the field of National Security, specializing in the impact analysis of the integration and interoperability of Reserve Forces with active components of the Uniformed Services of the United States; and
Whereas, this ofthonored and decorated soldier is also the recipient of this State’s Palmetto Cross, Palmetto Patriot Award, Meritorious Service Medal, and Commendation Cross; and
Whereas, General Goodwin is married to the former Viola Ellen Bernal of San Diego, California, and enjoys reading, chess, hiking, and parachuting. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor the distinguished military contributions of General Robert E. Lee Goodwin III, of the Office of the Adjutant General of the South Carolina National Guard, on the occasion of his promotion to Lieutenant General on April 16, 2001, and his acceptance of the duties of Special Advisor on Military and Economic Affairs to the Governor of the State of Alabama.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant General Robert E. Lee Goodwin.
