How did I get appointed to the Regional Advisory Council?
There are two sets of automatic appointees – Chairs of the Overall Extension Advisory Committees in each county and Chairs of the Research and Education Center (REC) Advisory Committees. Other At-large members are nominated by IFAS Deans, Department Chairs, County Extension Directors and/or REC Directors. Appointments are for two years or until no longer chair of an advisory committee.
What is the relationship of the Florida Agricultural Council (FAC) to the Regional Advisory Committees (RAC)?
By FAC By-laws, the RAC are a part of the FAC. The five RACs each have three voting members on the statewide FAC and can be elected to the FAC Board or term as an Officer.
Are the Florida Agricultural Council (FAC) or the Regional Advisory Committees (RAC) Political Action Committees (PACs) or am I required to lobby?
No to both questions. The FAC is a 501 c (3) corporation and is prohibited from functioning as a PAC. Any input provided to the political process is done as individuals and no FAC funds are used to finance political activities.
How are the agendas for the meetings developed?
Input for agenda topics is requested at RAC meetings and through consultation with the Regional Chairs. However, any member can request items be placed on the agenda by contacting their Regional Chair or an IFAS Official.
How are meeting locations and times determined?
Meeting sites and times are determined through input from the regional committee members. It is recognized that with only 5 regions, it is difficult to pick sites that are convenient to all RAC members. However, attempts are made to pick locations and times that are the most central for travel times.
Who from IFAS will attend?
At a minimum the deans for research, teaching and extension, and Assoc. VP will attend each meeting.
If I can’t attend my appointed region’s meeting can I attend another region’s meeting?
Yes.
