A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO PATRICK G. CALDWELL OF AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THE OCCASION OF EARNING THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA’S HIGHEST RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT.

Whereas, upon attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, Patrick Caldwell will be honored on Saturday, June 22, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church in Aiken, South Carolina, during a special Eagle Scout Court of Honor; and

Whereas, the Eagle Scout Award is the highest and most distinguished honor a Boy Scout can earn; and

Whereas, Patrick is a member of Troop 110, which is sponsored by First Presbyterian Church in Aiken, South Carolina; and

Whereas, along his trail to Eagle Scout, Patrick Caldwell earned the Arrow of Light Award, attended the 1997 National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia, completed the Philmont Trek in 1998 at Cimarron, New Mexico, served in a number of leadership positions within his troop including Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader, and earned thirtythree merit badges; and

Whereas, Patrick Caldwell is a highly active member of his church and community. He is involved with the youth program at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church where he has been on the Youth Council for two years, has served as an acolyte for four years, and attended Happening, a spiritual youth conference in 2000. He has been employed as a Red Cross certified lifeguard for the past four years; and

Whereas, Patrick is a ninth generation South Carolinian and recently completed his freshman year at the University of South Carolina, Aiken ; and

Whereas, Patrick is one of the very few young men who has exhibited the hard work and determination needed to reach the rank of Eagle Scout, and he could not have done so without the love and support of his proud parents, Thomas and Christine Caldwell; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to salute Patrick Caldwell on this outstanding achievement and look forward to hearing of his other accomplishments in the years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Patrick G. Caldwell of Aiken, South Carolina, on the occasion of earning the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Patrick G. Caldwell.
