A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE JOHN H. LUMPKIN, JR., OF COLUMBIA FOR RECEIVING THE GREATER COLUMBIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR AWARD ON MARCH 20, 2002, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, John H. Lumpkin, Jr., received the Ambassador of the Year Award from the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce at a banquet on March 20, 2002; and
Whereas, John Lumpkin is dedicated to giving back to his community and has been instrumental in implementing many worthwhile projects; and
Whereas, Mr. Lumpkin formed the Zoo Group which led to the creation of the River Alliance, an initiative that seeks to revive the banks of the three rivers in Columbia. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the River Alliance; and
Whereas, Mr. Lumpkin is active in the Midlands Technical College Foundation and this year will chair the first community based major gifts campaign; and
Whereas, John Lumpkin is also involved with the Palmetto Health Foundation and has served on the Board Development and Recognition Committee. He revived the Atrium Society, which raised $115,000 to purchase cutting edge diagnostic equipment for Palmetto Health Baptist’s Breast Cancer Center; and
Whereas, John Lumpkin was instrumental in the creation of the Central Carolina Economic Development Alliance and the revitalization of the Columbia Business Forum; and
Whereas, Mr. Lumpkin has served as the chairman of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, president of the United Way of the Midlands, chairman of the board of the South Carolina Division of the American Cancer Society, and has been involved in many other leadership positions in his community; and
Whereas, other community leaders hail John Lumpkin as an ethical man dedicated to making a difference and willing to face a challenge; and
Whereas, John Lumpkin, a Dreher High School graduate, earned a history degree from Princeton University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law; and
Whereas, John Lumpkin is the president and CEO of Edens & Avant Real Estate Services. He is married to Emily and they have three children, Glenn, Frances, and Harriott; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize and honor such an astute businessman and community leader as John H. Lumpkin, Jr. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate John H. Lumpkin, Jr., of Columbia for receiving the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year Award on March 20, 2002, and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to John H. Lumpkin, Jr., of Columbia.
