A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DR. EZEKIEL F. HAMPTON UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAPTIST EDUCATIONAL AND MISSIONARY CONVENTION.

Whereas, Dr. Ezekiel F. Hampton received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from South Carolina State College, his Bachelor of Divinity Degree with honors from Morris College, and his Doctor of Divinity Degree from Morris College; and

Whereas, he has served as: a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; Moderator of the Great Pee Dee Baptist Association; a member of the Boards of Trustees of both Morris College and Benedict College; Chairman of the Florence and Affiliated Counties Union Executive Board; Chairman of the Pee Dee CAA Transitional Shelter Advisory Board; an instructor for the South Carolina Baptist Congress of Christian Education; and an instructor for the Morris College School of Religion Extension in the Town of Pineville; and

Whereas, Dr. Hampton has received numerous honors and awards which include: being featured in both Jet magazine and Reader’s Digest; being honored as Distinguished Alumni at the twentysixth National Conference on Blacks in Higher Education sponsored by the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education; and

Whereas, he is the former pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Town of Lancaster and currently pastors the Meadow Prong Missionary Baptist Church in the Town of Effingham; and

Whereas, Dr. Hampton is the son of the late Mr. Arthur N. Hampton and the late Mrs. Janie Louise Hampton, is married to the former Miss Patricia Cantey, and together he and his wife are the proud parents of two daughters; and

Whereas, it has been brought to the attention of the members of the South Carolina General Assembly that Dr. Hampton was recently elected President of the South Carolina Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize Dr. Hampton for achieving this most prestigious honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, hereby recognize and congratulate Dr. Ezekiel F. Hampton upon the occasion of his election as President of the South Carolina Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Ezekiel F. Hampton.
