A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MR. TOBIN CASSELS OF LEXINGTON COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AS AN EMPLOYEE OF SOUTHEASTERN FREIGHT LINES AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING NAMED THE COMPANY’S PRESIDENT.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are pleased and excited to learn that Mr. Tobin Cassels has been named the President of Southeastern Freight Lines, a West Columbia based trucking firm and one of the state’s largest privately owned businesses; and

Whereas, Southeastern Freight Lines was founded by Mr. Tobin Cassels’ grandfather, and Tobin began working for the family business in 1973 as a mechanic when he was just thirteen years old. After he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Washington and Lee University, Tobin joined the company full time in 1981 as management trainee; and

Whereas, Mr. Tobin Cassels has held several positions within Southeastern Freight Lines, becoming its first director of quality improvement in 1985 and later being promoted to director of operations and vice president of terminal operations; Tobin was named the company’s vice chairman in 1994 and has since maintained an excellent working relationship with his father, William T. Cassels Jr., who serves as Chairman of Southeastern Freight Lines; and

Whereas, Southeastern Freight Lines remains one of the state’s most successful companies having in recent years added dozens of service centers and increased revenues fivefold; Mr. Tobin Cassels will be assuming tremendous responsibility as President of one of the state’s largest privately owned businesses that currently employs about six thousand people, including six hundred in West Columbia, and has annual revenues of close to five hundred million dollars; and

Whereas, Mr. Tobin Cassels is a past chairman of the South Carolina Trucking Association and remains involved with the organization; his service to his community extends beyond the trucking industry, however, as he is also a board member of the United Way of the Midlands and is serving as chairman of the United Way’s campaign in 2001; he is also a faithful member and elder at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia; and

Whereas, Mr. Tobin Cassels is greatly respected within the trucking community and is considered to have not only the leadership skills but also the compassion, generosity, and faith to keep Southeastern Freight Lines on the right track for future growth and success; and the General Assembly is proud to recognize Tobin Cassels for all his past accomplishments and wishes him much success in his future endeavors both as President of Southeastern Freight Lines and as a citizen of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Mr. Tobin Cassels of Lexington County for his many years of outstanding performance as an employee of Southeastern Freight Lines and congratulate him on being named the company’s President.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Tobin Cassels.
