A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE NAVAL JUNIOR RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS DRILL TEAM OF SILVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN WINNING THE 2001 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE DRILL MEET AND THE STATE DRILL CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE DRILL TEAM MEMBERS, THEIR NAVEL JUNIOR ROTC INSTRUCTORS, SCHOOL OFFICIALS, FACULTY, AND STAFF OF SILVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL ON THE OCCASION OF THE SILVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL DRILL TEAM WINNING THE STATE DRILL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW AND BEING SELECTED TO REPRESENT THE NAVAL JUNIOR RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS AREA SIX IN THE UPCOMING NATIONAL DRILL COMPETITION TO BE HELD IN PENSACOLA, FLORIDA.

Whereas, exhibiting superb esprit de corps and discipline, the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Drill Team of Silver Bluff High School successfully defended its state championship at the State Drill Championship Meet held January 27, 2001, at the University of South Carolina by winning the drill competition for 2001; and

Whereas, sixteen schools represented by well trained and highly disciplined drill teams were entered in the 2001 South Carolina State Drill Meet from various areas of the State and all were entered in each category of the competition regardless of whether they were from a class AAAA, AAA, AA, or A school; and

Whereas, ably led and superbly coached by their naval instructors Lieutenant Commander Ronald Freeman and Chief Charles Neighbors, the outstanding Silver Bluff team handily won the Platoon Unarmed, Fancy Duo, Squad Armed, Squad Fancy, Color Guard, and Overall events and placed second in the Squad Unarmed competition; and

Whereas, Silver Bluff gained a total of one thousand four hundred eightyeight points and won a significant first place victory in the drill competition by a margin of two hundred sixteen points, and this is the third year in a row that the Silver Bluff Drill Team has earned recognition as the State Champion; and

Whereas, the members of this outstanding championship drill team are Allen Weathersbee, Bob Preston, John Holloway, Matt Glover, Andy Freeman, Joseph Sirard, Jerrod Solomon, Detroit Spires, George Cloud, David Barefield, Jenny Franklin, David Henschel, Aaron Quick, Alex Cunningham, Cheryl Preston, Jamie Phiniezy, and Bry Cobb, all of whom have earned and deserve high praise for their discipline and teamwork that resulted in Silver Bluff’s third state championship in drill competition; and

Whereas, this championship Silver Bluff Naval Drill Team has been selected to represent Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Area Six, consisting of South Carolina, Georgia, and Western North Carolina, in the upcoming national drill competition to be held April 6 and 7, 2001, in Pensacola, Florida. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Drill Team of Silver Bluff High School for their outstanding performance in winning the 2001 South Carolina State Drill Meet and the State Drill Championship, and to congratulate the drill team members, their Naval Junior ROTC instructors, school officials, faculty, and staff of Silver Bluff High School on the occasion of the Silver Bluff High School Drill Team winning the State Drill Championship for the third year in a row and being selected to represent the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Area Six in the upcoming national drill competition to be held in Pensacola, Florida.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Drill Team of Silver Bluff High School of Aiken.
