NOTICE OF RACE

Organising Authority: The University of Brunel Sailing Club (on behalf of The British Universities Sailing Association)

1 RULES

1.1The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012.

1.2The prescriptions of the Royal Yachting Association shall apply.

1.3The Rules and Regulations of the British Universities Sports Association and the British Universities Sailing Associations’ Constitution and Standing Orders will apply.

1.4Only students internally registered at an institution affiliated to the British Universities Sports Association may enter the regatta. All competitors shall present their student registration/matriculation card at registration.

1.5The helm and any crew of a boat shall be from the same institution.

1.6Only competitors who are entered on the Entry Form may compete. This includes any reserves who may be used. In the event of an institution wishing to change the crew nominated to race in a particular boat, it must apply to the Organizing Authority for permission to do so. The Organizing Authority will only give permission where the replacement crew has been entered on the Entry Form. The Organizing Authority is prepared to accommodate institutions who need to reallocate crews amongst their boats, but it will not accept any individual turning up to the event who has not been previously entered

2ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1The regatta is open to all boats with Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers between 1200 and 822.

2.2Eligible boats may enter by completing the ‘BUSA Inland Championships Entry Form’ available from the BUSA (sailing) website: The deadlineis Friday 20March 2009.

2.3No entries will be accepted after 6pmFriday 20MARCH 2009.The Organising Authority will not accept any late entries. The deadline for entries is as specified in the Notice of Race. Competitors who have not entered should not turn up and expect to be able to race.

2.4All competitors must produce at registration their University Registration Card - an NUS card will not suffice.

2.5All competitors must at registration complete an Acknowledgement of Risk Form signed and dated by each competitor.

2.6All sail numbers must be clearly displayed. No changes of sail number will be permitted except with the prior written permission of the Race Committee. Boats which have only a two-digit sail number must display the first letter of their institution before the number (i.e. Cardiff University 12 and 13 become C12 and C13).

2.7Any changes to the type of boat, sail number, crew or helm will cost the Sailing Team involved £5 per change. All of the money collected will be given to the RNLI as a donation from DWSC.

3FEES

3.1Required fees are as follows:

  • Singles handers:£25
  • Double handers:£40

4SCHEDULE

4.1Registration:

Register on arrival at DWSC on the evening of Friday 17 April 2009 before 18:00, or on Saturday18 April 2009 from 0900hrs to1000hrsat the latest.

4.2Schedule of Races

The Organising Authority may alter the schedule of races until 21.30hrs on the day before the day that the changes are to take effect.

4.3Two completed races will constitute the series.

5SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available at registration and may be available beforehand from the BUSA website.

6VENUE

Races shall be raced on Queen Mother Reservoir at Datchet Water Sailing Club (DWSC).

7THE COURSES

7.1The courses to be sailed will be indicated in the Sailing Instructions. Handicap races are likely to be a "P" shaped courses on Saturday and Olympic or Windward Leeward on Sunday. The pursuit races will be a course set on the day around pre-laid marks.

8BERTHING

Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the boat park.

9EQUIPMENT

9.1Adequate personal buoyancy must be worn at all times whilst on the pontoons and when afloat. A drysuit or wetsuit does not constitute adequate personal buoyancy.

9.2A Drysuit or wetsuit must be worn at all times whilst afloat.

9.3The Sailing Committee strongly recommends that only quick release trapeze harnesses are worn when sailing at DWSC. Also that a suitable safety knife should be carried by all sailors when afloat.

10RADIO COMMUNICATION

A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephone communications.

11SCORING

11.1Details of the scoring system will be available in the Sailing Instructions.

12PRIZES

12.1Prizes will be awarded to boats finishing in overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.

12.2BUCS points will be awarded to the top 4 places in the Laser 2 and Handicap categories. Only those boats that had originally entered into the Laser 2 and Handicap fleets which were cancelled at the BUCS Fleet Racing Championships at WPNSA in November 2008 will be eligible for these points.

13DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

13.1Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority, BUSA and DWSC will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

13.2Competitors, their clubs or Athletic Union are responsible for all travel and subsistence costs.

13.3 Any antisocial or criminal behaviour will result in immediate eviction from DWSC until the event is finished on Sunday 19th April 2009 at 1700.

14INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000 per event or the equivalent.
