A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND DISTINGUISH SPRING VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH OF COLUMBIA FOR CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF WORSHIP ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2000, AND WISH THEM MANY MORE YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE GLORY OF GOD.

Whereas, the Spring Valley Baptist Church held its first Sunday school and church services on October 1, 1978, at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, and the church was officially constituted with one hundred thirtyone charter members on November 30, 1980, with the service held at threethirty in the afternoon at the Spring Valley High School Little Theatre; and

Whereas, in 1982 the church moved to its current fifteenacre location on Polo Road where the church now boasts one thousand ninetyfive members; and

Whereas, Spring Valley Baptist Church was recognized by the South Carolina Baptist Convention as being the fastest Baptist church in the state to give its one million dollar donation to the Cooperative Program; and

Whereas, Spring Valley Baptist Church has an emphasis on mission which is illustrated by the fact that eleven members of the congregation have responded to a call of a Christian vocation. In addition, the church has taken mission trips to Rio de Janeiro, Boston, the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Daufuskie Island, as well as assisting in the construction of two churches in West Virginia; and

Whereas, Spring Valley Baptist Church is guided by Dr. Robert Winburn, the pastor since 1989; Reverend H. E. Barkley, Minister of Education and Administration; Dr. Rick McCollum, Minister of Worship; and Reverend Casey Ross, Minister of Students; and

Whereas, Spring Valley Baptist Church celebrated on Sunday, November 26, 2000, with a breakfast reception followed by special guest speaker, Dr. Lee G. Royce, President of Anderson College. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and distinguish Spring Valley Baptist Church for celebrating twenty years of worship on Sunday, November 26, 2000, and wish them many more years of faithful service to the glory of God.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Spring Valley Baptist Church of Columbia.
