20 Year Apple Award Recipient

Every year, Cedar Mountain Schools honors staff members who have worked for the school district 20 years. This year, our recipients are Joel Christianson, Karen Malecek, and Sue Luna.

Joel Christianson is originally from Erskine, Minnesota and graduated from Erskine High School. He attended college at Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minnesota. Prior to teaching at Cedar Mountain, he taught in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Mr. Christenson teaches math, with many students having received college credits for taking his College Algebra class. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Christianson hasbeen head golf coach for many years, with numerous golfers qualifying for the state golf tournament. He is a great person who brings out the best in people.

Karen Malecek is from Franklin, where she attended and graduated from Cedar Mountain Schools. She then attended St. Mary’s College in Minneapolis, where she graduated with a degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. She has worked in the high school special education program at Cedar Mountain for many years. Most of her time this year has been spent helping students in the middle school. She is someone you can count on being here every day giving her best effort.

Sue Luna is originally from Iowa, graduating from Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf, Iowa. Her responsibilities at Cedar Mountain change from year to year, with the majority of her time being in our preschool program. She also helps arrange transportation and helps clean in the elementary school. She has had to be very flexible with her job assignments, as she has done a little of everything over the years. I appreciate that she has always been willing to do whatever we have asked of her.

Thanks to Joel, Karen, and Sue for their commitment to Cedar Mountain Schools. Their pride and loyalty to our district is evident when you talk to them.

American Education Week

This week is the 96th annual American Education Week. This year's theme, Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility, calls upon America to provide students with quality public schools so that they can grow, prosper, and achieve in the 21st century. We have lots to be proud of at Cedar Mountain and in schools throughout the state. Great schools are great because of individuals who are working together for a common goal. Thank you for your part in making Cedar Mountain an outstanding school.
