About this role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who is keen to work at the UK’s most well-known and respected childcare social enterprise, winner of a prestigious National Business Award for transformation from a traditional charity to successful thriving social enterprise.

The London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) provides early years education and parenting support to 3,000 families each year via 26 nurseries in seven London boroughs. LEYF believes that early years education is a catalyst for long-term change, and not simply a business in itself. Early childhood intervention is one of the most effective ways of improving a child’s future life chances, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, so LEYF uses a social business model to support 46% of their families to access a free place, ensuring that children from all backgrounds have the same access to high quality early years education.

LEYF is a bold and entrepreneurial organisation aiming to double in size in the next three yearsto reach 5000 children across 50 nurseries. To help realise its ambitions, LEYF is looking to recruit a creative and dynamic Marketing Manager. The post-holder will need to drive the operational delivery of marketing activities ensuring great performance, consistency and the achievement of business targets.

Reporting directly to the Head of Marketing and Communications and working across the organisation this role is key in championing LEYF’s brand and values, enabling increased reach and enhanced customer service for thousands of families across London.

The Head Office Team at LEYF is an ambitious and fun group of people, many of whom have recently left the private sector to further LEYF’s award-winning social enterprise model. For this position, experience of charitable or social enterprise organisations is not required, but a passion for the work of LEYF, flexibility, and a drive for results are essential.

Job Purpose:

To increase occupancy across our nurseries, grow the LEYF brand amongst key audiences and contribute to the development of a strategic marketing programme at LEYF.

The Role – Key Responsibilities

  1. Create medium-term strategic marketing plans for individual nurseries in partnership with Nursery Managers. Support and work closely with the Marketing and Communications Executive to deliver the tactics in the plans, managing the budget for each plan and tracking and measuring results (and adapting the plans as required).
  1. Work with managers, Heads of Department and Directors to embed the brand across the organisation as part of the brand refresh project, so all staff understand and work towards our ambition, purpose, values and share the LEYF story.
  1. Manage all branded marketing materials, including copy, design and production, coordinating support from agencies where required. In particular, coordinate the refresh of all LEYF marketing materials as part of the brand refresh project.
  1. Deliver marketing services to nurseries in line with the strategic marketing plan, including coaching nursery leaders in implementing their local marketing plans.
  1. Work with the Customer Services Executive to improve and enhance the customer journey, providing training and marketing materials to nurseries as required.
  1. Conduct market research such as focus groups and questionnaires to provide insights to increase customer satisfaction, retention, and ultimately occupancy.

Details of specific tasks and duties associated with these accountabilities will be agreed with the Head of Marketing and Communications as part of the performance management process. Any reasonable duties may be assigned, consistent with the nature of the role and its level of responsibility.

Problem solving/complexity/decision making

The complexity of the role arises from the need to implement LEYF’s marketing plan effectively across a range of nurseries, each of which has its own local demographics, own building and own mix of children and parents. The jobholder must be able to support the Nursery Manager to create an individual and localised plan to meet agreed occupancy targets.

The jobholder has an important educative role in helping employees understand what a brand is, how they epitomise that brand and why it’s important that we all follow the brand guidelines. Similarly the jobholder needs to be able to translate marketing ‘jargon’ into easily-understood ideas and messages so nursery teams understand their role in the marketing process.

The jobholder must be able to build trusting relationships with nursery teams, where marketing can sometimes be seen as an imposition.

The jobholder is expected to be able to manage a number of projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
