Selecting seeds for northern food production, caring for seedlings, organic soil fertility, dynamic accumulators, biochar and much more!
May 13 & 14: Garden Design
Learn types of outdoor planting, spacing, square foot gardening, bio intensive gardening, and hands-on design.
June 10 & 11: Permaculture & Northern Food Forests
Learn the most important design considerations and skills to build your own successful food forest and permaculture garden in the North.
July 22 & 23: Marketing & Business Development
Learn how to harvest and portion crops for market, direct marketing techniques, value-adding, funding opportunities & planning a profitable Northern farm business.
August 12 & 13: Introduction to Holistic Management
Tools to improve quality of life, relationships, and finances. Craft a Holistic Context, learn decision making, healing land with animals, and reading ecosystems.
September 2 & 3: Small Scale Livestock
Gain hands-on skills with cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, and dogs. Topics: selecting breeds, housing, stock handling, grazing management, forest grazing.
September 30 & October 1: Harvesting & Food Preservation
Learn a variety of delicious ways to safely store your summer harvests: Live storage, dehydration, freezing, pickling, jamming, and lacto-fermentation.

3. Payment for Courses

These courses have a fee of $75 per day, which must be paid to NFTI one week prior to the course. This fee includes lunch, expert instruction, tools and supplies.

We also offer accommodations if you would like to stay overnight at our Farm Campus during the course. An overnight stay in one of our beautiful yurts costs $75 per night person, and includes a continental breakfast (bring your own towels). You can eat supper in Hay River or we can provide a hot supper for an extra $25 per person.
