TUESDAY 10/28/14 Giddy Tuesday Strategies

1- Read and take detailed notes for CH 7-4 The diversity of cellular life pages 190-193; Remember to read all content and captions and include information found in figures, photos and diagrams. List the headings, read a paragraph and write the major topics for that paragraph. This will include much more than just the bold words and key concepts.

2- Complete the questions for CH 7-3 & CH 7-4;

3- Define key terms for CH 7 page 196 for ALL sections. Define each term FULLY according to YOUR BOOK GLOSSARY. # terms consecutively and write dark enough and neat enough to be read easily. Vocabulary assignment is due on MONDAY of next week.

4- Test planned for Monday of next week for CH 7;

CH 7-3 & CH 7-4 Questions & things you need to be sure to know J

1.Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of ______concentration to an area of ____ concentration.

2.What do the molecules do on each side of the membrane when the concentration of molecules on each side of the membrane is the same?

3.______transport is a means of particle transport that REQUIRES ENERGY.

4.The DIFFUSION of WATER across a selectively permeable membrane is called ______.

5.An animal cell that is surrounded by fresh water will ______because the osmotic pressure causes water to move into the cell.

6.______refers to cells having different jobs in an organism.

7.______-a group of similar cells that perform a particular function. List an example. What is an organ system?

8.List the levels of organization in a multicellular organism from simplest level to most complex beginning with cells.

9.If a cell contains a nucleus, it must be a(n) ______.

10.The assembly of ribosomes begins in a small dense structure called the ______.

11.Ribosomes stud the surface of the______.

12.Cilia & flagella are made of protein filaments called ______.

13.According to the cell theory, all cells come from existing ______.

14.In a eukaryote, the material between the cell membrane & the nucleus is called the ______.

15.During cell division, chromatin condenses to form ______, which are thread-like structures containing genetic material.

16.Define diffusion.

**Be able to distinguish an animal cell from a plant cell by looking at an unlabeled diagram.

**From a diagrambe able to label (you have to be able to recognize/identify structures!) & tell the function of cell structures: nucleus, mitochondrion, ribosome, cell membrane, smooth endoplasmic reticulum, rough endoplasmic reticulum, nucleolus, golgi apparatus, cytoplasm;
