Weekly Assessments

Grading of weekly assessments is about to get more strict. I have explicitly taught my students since first grade how to rephrase the question in their short response. We have also practiced “proving our answers”.

For example: Why are sea turtles in danger of disappearing? Use details and information from the article to support your answer.

Response: Sea turtles are in danger of disappearing because they get trapped in nets and water pollution. Some hunters use their shells for jewelry.

Students who are consistently beginning responses with “Because” or not including evidence will be marked incorrect beginning next week. Responses must be written in complete sentences and provide evidence from the text. This is a skill we continue to practice on a daily basis in the classroom. They should also be practicing this with comprehension passages that are sent home for homework.
