1st Nine Weeks Performance Checklist
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our 2015-2016 school year! Below you will find the overview of the curriculum that all 2nd grade students will receive during the first 9 week instruction. Students will receive a grade based on a scale of 100. An average of 70 or higher shall be considered a passing grade.
English Language Arts
Ø Focus Poem, Fantasy/ Fiction / Folktales/ Realistic Fiction
Ø Expository Text Features
Ø Author Study: Kevin Henkes, Eve Bunting
Ø Phonological Awareness and Spelling
Ø Word study (prefixes/ suffixes)
Ø Monitor Comprehension, describe similarities and differences in the plots and setting
Ø Retell and write stories (Beginning, Middle, End)
Ø Distinguish between fiction and nonfiction
Ø Write personal narrative text using the writing process
Ø Apply the correct use of Capitalization and punctuation (in compositions)
Fluency Goal: 60
Math:
Ø Recall and apply addition and subtraction facts to 20
Ø Use concrete models of 100’s , 10’s and 1’s (0 -1200)
Ø Use place value to read, write, and describe whole numbers
Ø Apply mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole number computations in order to solve addition and subtraction problems
Ø Determine the value of coins up to one dollar
Ø Use whole numbers to locate and name points on a number line
Ø Use tools such as real objects, manipulatives, and technology to solve problems
Ø Apply mathematical process standards to understand/represent and compare whole numbers. They will understand the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers and relationship to place value-greater than, less than
Ø The students is expected to name the whole number that corresponds to a specific point on a number line
Ø Determine even – odd numbers up to 40
Ø Problem solving models that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, justifying a solution, and evaluating the problem solving process and the reasonableness of the solution
Science:
Ø Identify and Describe Safe practices (Safety Rules)
Ø Identify and use Science Tools
Ø Investigate Properties of matter and patterns
Ø Investigate Force, Motion and Energy
Ø Magnetism
Social Studies
Ø Recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States and Texas Flag
Ø Listen to patriotic songs
Ø Identify historical figures who have exemplified good citizenship
Ø Maps and Landforms
Ø My community
Ø Geography
Ø Projects (Technology): Brochure to identify the characteristics of a Citizenship to include a historical figure.
Ø (Take Home Project) Personal narrative on how student has shown good citizenship. (more information will be sent home at a later date)
