Games explanations for program

THE PUSH-UP TEST RACE

Group thinking and reliance on others - first give them only the problem and let them work it out – if not, give them the answer.

The problem - is for all members of the Patrol to be raised above the ground with only their hands in contact with the ground - and - with all Patrol members in physical contact with each other - and - using no other objects.First patrol to do this wins

A solution, there must be others but this will do - is for each Patrol member to lie face down on the floor, as for `pushups', with the feet not on the floor but on the shoulders of another. When all is ready, everyone performs a `push-up', leaving only their hands in contact with the floor!

When expertise is achieved, try rotating while in the `up' position.

Three cones

Draw 3 circles 1 metre diameter at Aks room end, middle line and fireplace end of room in straight line

3 patrols line up at one end ofthe hall and 3 at other endof the hall. Each patrol is numbered 1-8

Place 3 cones/plastic caps in each of middle circles. Call a number between 1-8. that patrol member runs to middle. Can only pick up 1 cone/cap. Runs that back to his circle. Then runs either to middle again OR to another patrol.

Objective get 3 cones in your patrol circle circle.

Cavalry Charge

DEFERRED – suggesting Piggy Back Soccer instead.

Two teams( 3 patrols each team) formed as horses and riders; one team attacking the other, attempting to dismount as many riders as possible of opposing team. After a time limit, whichever team has had the more riders eliminated loses. A rider unmounted cannot remount, but is eliminated from the game.

Could do variation between patrols with non competing patrols sitting out and playoff winners and losers.

CHINESE TUG OF WAR

Two players (opponents) stand back to back, bow politely to space and grasp right hands between their legs. In this ludicrous position, each tries to pull the other to the opposite wall.

We can run this on a patrol basis buy having three pairs of patrols facing off down the hall each with a leader. We can shift along so each patrol can challenge 2 different patrols (or more or less del-pending on how the time is going)

Knots to be taught:

Rolling hitch

This is an important general purpose hitch. It is very good to makean adjustable loop to secure a rope around a tent peg. It is bothstrong and easy to untie. It must be tied under tension. When tying hold your thumb over the first loop. The second loop needsto be pulled firmly over the “shoulder” of the first loop. This ensues the knot will stayin place whilst the final loop is tied.
