Note to Leaders

1ST Keynsham Shooting Competition.

It will be a mandatory shooting competition, open to all 3 Scout groups and the Explorer group.

We will run the competition on each group’s normal Troop night so that the maximum attendance can be gained. The First round of the competition will be during the third week back from the Christmas holidays in January (16th, 17th, 18th and 19th). The Semi Finals and Finals will take place on Sunday 28thJanuary between 1800 and 2030. The venue will be the Keynsham Scout Hut.

The competition will draw out a winner from each group and an overall winner from 1st Keynsham Scouts. There will be a prize at the end for the overall winner. All shots will be taken in the standing position, for both practice and during the competition.

The whole Scout hall will become a shooting range (dependant on number of range assistants). The numbers that will be able to shoot will be decided on the day, when the range has been set up and the help has been counted

There will be a maximum of 15 shooters at a time in each group (maybe more if there are more than 30 in the Troop/Unit) during the First Round. This will allow each competitor to have both their practice and competition shots. The YP will then rotate around so that the rest of their Troop/Unit get their turn to shoot on their evening.

A permission form will be provided closer to the time that covers all 5 of the nights that the competition will be ran. This will need to be issued for the parents to sign on the first week back ready for the competition. No form – No shooting. There will be a £1 cost to the competition to cover the prize and all shooting consumables. Those not shooting (either because of lack of form or because its not their turn) will need to be supervised by the Group leaders to allow the Shooting Leaders the time to concentrate on the Shooters.

Note To Organisers

All YP will shoot in the Standingposition (there will be no sitting). They will be given 10 shots practice before they go into their 5 shot scored cards. They will shoot using breakbarrel rifles and be shooting at 10m Pistol Targets from a distance of 10m. The Rifles will be sighted in on the Sunday before the first session.

The 15 YP per session will shoot their 10 Standing practice shots and then two lots of 5 scored competitionstanding shots, A total of 20 shots per YP. Once the YP has completed all their shots, the group of 15 will then swap with the other half of the troop/unit so that they can shoot their 20 shots. Appendix 1

The Semi Finals and Finals of the shooting will take place the evening of Sunday 28thJanuary. This will consist of the top 5 shooters from each Troop/Unit (total 20 shooters). They will do a practice and competition shoot in the same format as the first round. The top shooter from each Troop/Unit (total 4 shooters) will then shoot in the Finals. There will be no practice for the Finals, as they would have shot earlier in the evening. Appendix 2

After the Semi Finals, the 4 shooters will be the top shooters of each Troop/Unit. After the Finals, we will have identified the top shooter in 1st Keynsham Scouts. Following a tidy up of the range, the prizes will be given. There will be a trophy for 1st place and certificates for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. These will be created from an adaptation of the KSRC Score Achievement Certificates. The Trophy will have a plate that can be engraved so that the competition can be run annually and the trophy returned and reused.

In the event of shooters having the same score when making the selections for the next round, a shoot off will entail. The highest score after 3 shots will win. If time does not permit a shoot off, priority will then be given to the youngest shooter if the scores are the same.
