Tournament Schedule

The tournament will follow the draw as specified by the ASAA in the Policy Handbook. The participating teams in the tournament will be ranked and seeded by the ASAA.

NOTE: Most games are scheduled for Rosemary School with some games at Duchess School.

GIMMICS

Gimmics will be providing the souvenir clothing for the Provincial Championships. They will be bringing a variety of clothing styles (e.g. short and long sleeved t-shirts, baseball shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, and more) with prices ranging from $25 - $50. All prices will include one tournament logo along with GST. To personalize an item with letters/numbers there is an additional cost. Payment can be made with cash or through a debit/Visa machine. They will be located in the Library. They will be available Thursday, Friday and Saturday until noon.

Registration/Team Information

Registration will occur online: under the registration link. All coaches of qualifying teams will fill out the online forms which include a Team Roster, Team Picture, Team Logo, Team History and Team Order Form. Deadline for registration is Monday, March 16 at 12:00 noon. If you are experiencing difficulty registering contact Michelle Ross at ASAA at 780-427-8182, and she will be happy to assist you, so you can meet the deadline.

Submitted Team photos should be in digital format. (Digital requirements as follows: use a minimum of 3 megapixel camera, use the highest resolution the camera will allow, when using a “zoom” feature utilize the optical zoom versus the digital zoom).

The photo and information will be used in the tournament program, to be delivered to the printers on Monday afternoon.

Please include all of the following on the Roster: name of school, zone; player names, numbers; coaches and other team staff names; a cell phone number that will be accessible to us during the tournament; uniform colors and team name; and a brief summary of your season.

Banquet and Opening Ceremonies

The official opening ceremonies of the tournament will be held Thursday, March 19 at Rosemary School at 9:00am. Please have your teams arrive 30 minutes before the Opening ceremonies begin and your host/hostess will help you to get organized for the ceremonies.

The banquet will be held Thursday, March 16 at the Duchess Community Hall, Duchess, AB at 6:00 pm. Doors will open at 5:45 pm. Attendance at the banquet/opening ceremonies is compulsory for all team members and coaches. Teams must wear team attire for the opening ceremonies and semi- formal attire for the banquet. No jeans or sweats please. Your official team party consists of all players, coaches, managers, and trainers. Seating will be assigned prior to your arrival for the banquet.

Each team will be allowed to order up to 20 tickets at $25.00 per ticket to be ordered when registering your team.

Please let us know in advance if anyone on your team has a food allergy. The banquet includes a buffet meal and music services provided by Avalanche Multimedia.

Registration & Banquet Fees

Tournament Entry Fee: $485.00Banquet Fee: $25.00/per participant

Registration will be concluded upon arrival at your team practice and pictures.

Banquet tickets must be ordered in advance when you register using the online Registration form.

You may combine fees to one cheque. Please make all cheques payable to: Rosemary School. Please bring your cheque to the coaches meeting for entry fee, team pictures, banquet tickets and loonie fee. The loonie fee is new this year, it is used to help fund a scholarship offered through the ASAA (only athletes need to contribute to the fund $1.00/player.)

Coaches Meeting

The Coaches Meeting will be held on Thursday morning at 8:30 am at Rosemary School. Please ensure that you have a representative in attendance as pertinent tournament information will be provided and fees not yet processed will be collected. The coaches’ packages will be distributed, important tournament information provided. Please bring your cheque for the banquet and the tournament entry fee.

Captains Meeting

The captains meeting will take place on Thursday morning at 8:30am at Rosemary School. Please ensure a captain from each team attends.

Official Game Ball & Practice Balls

The official game ball will be the Spalding Top Flight 1000 TF Legacy, Size 28.5. We will provide practice and warm up balls for teams. If you choose to bring a ball bag, please store it in your assigned rooms.

Team Rooms/Change Rooms

Teams will have Home and Guest Change rooms in the gym Wednesday, and Thursday. There will be classrooms for teams on Friday and Saturday as well as the gym change rooms. Teams need to change in designated areas only. The higher ranked team will wear light jerseys for games.

Rooms have been block booked under the ASAA 1A Girls Basketball Provincials in the following hotels.

Due to heavy volume of Pipeline workers and Oil Companies in the area, hotel rooms are at a premium. If you think that you have a great chance of coming, please try to book as early as you can!!

**Please only book enough rooms for players and coaches and make sure you do so early, as the non-booked rooms will be released Monday night@ midnight.

First Aid

Teams must provide their own medical supplies and plan to do their own taping. There will be a qualified First Aid Practitioner available at all times, but there will not be a trainer. The hospital is 20 minutes away at Bassano Hospital, 608 5th Avenue, Bassano or 28 minutes away at Brooks Health Unit, 440 3rd Street East, Brooks for emergencies.

Practice Times

Practice times will be available for teams on Wednesday, March 18 and will be booked on a first come-first served basis but time of travel and first round byes will be taken into consideration when creating schedule. We have very limited space due to the number of teams involved. Practice times (for Wednesday March 18) will be booked in 40 minute intervals. You can book your practice time beginning on Monday, March 16th at 9:00am. ***All practices will be closed to the public.

Team photos for the ASAA Yearbook will be taken prior to your practice time at Rosemary School (between 10:40 am and 7:30 pm) on Wednesday, March 18th. Please have your team in uniform and/or appropriate warm-up attire. *Please arrive at Rosemary School for your team photos 40 minutes prior to your practice time so you will make your practice on time. Teams will receive one complimentary picture. During the tournament action pictures will be taken by Rykie Photography, Ryan Kiedrowski and he will offer pictures to purchase.

Spectator Admission

Team Id badges will be handed out at the time the team photos are taken and must be worn when arriving at a venue. Only those with accreditation will be admitted without charge.

Sportsmanship

The ASAA, through the tournament committee, wants to significantly increase the awareness of and recognition of individual acts of sportsmanship demonstrated by tournament participants, with a sportsmanship pin. The Pins will be presented throughout the tournament to those athletes, coaches and spectators who exemplify sportsmanship. The traditional Team Sportsmanship Award will be determined by a sportsmanship committee, with he help of the participating teams and tournament officials and will recognized in the weeks shortly after the tournament and sent out from the ASAA office.

Rules/Policy

It is incumbent upon all coaches and participants to be aware of ASAA policy as identified in the ASAA Handbook. Specifically for this event, these policies include player eligibility (pg. 35-38), supervision (pg. 46) and basketball (pg. 73-83).

Discipline and Misconduct

Breaches of the ASAA Code of Ethics are treated seriously and, as hosts, we are required to immediately report to the ASAA office any breaches that come to our attention. A portion of the ASAA Code of Ethics states “Any conduct, including, but not limited to ejections, fighting and drugs and alcohol use, that results in dishonor to the athlete, the team, the school or the ASAA will not be tolerated” (pg. 27).

Grievance Committee

All ASAA provincial championship hosts will convene a discipline/appeal committee. The committee will have the authority to address issues of a serious nature that may occur before, during or after a provincial championship match, or to hear appeals of the automatic suspension resulting from an ejection (see ASAA 2013/2014 Policy Handbook). The committee may include, but not be limited to, the tournament chairperson, an official and two coaches not in conflict with the issue. Coaches wishing to volunteer may do so at the coach’s meeting.

Coaches and Officials Hospitality Room

Hospitality room will be available on-site at Rosemary School in the staff lounge. Light refreshments will be available.

Awards Ceremonies

The following awards will be presented immediately after the following games:

  • Championship Game (Gold/Silver Medals and First and Second Place Plaques)
  • Third Place Game (Bronze Medals and Third Place Plaque)
  • Consolation Game (Consolation Plaque)
  • A short ceremony will take place following each game in which a plaque has been won.

The “Harold Brook” Plaque, awarded to the winner of the Sportsmanship award, will be contacted after the tournament and a presentation will be made at the recipient’s school at a later date.

Concession

The Rosemary School Girls Basketball parents will provide a Concession for the duration of the tournament. There will be a variety of hot and cold food available as well as drinks.

Game Procedures

A. In each game the higher ranked team will be designated as the “home team”. The exception being, Rosemary School, which will always be the home team when they are playing. The home team will wear their light uniforms and the visitors will wear dark. (unless previously arranged) Benches and shower rooms will also be designated as home and visitor.

B. Prior to each game each team will be led in by their hosts.

C. We have allowed 1 hour and 45 minutes per game until the last 3 games, which have been allotted 2 hours. Should a game finish early, we will NOT move up the start time of the next game. Regardless of timing, there will be a minimum 10 minute warm up prior to each game and a 10 minute break for half time.

D. The floor will be swept at half time and in between games. Please keep your players off the court until this has been done.

Hosts:

Each team will be assigned a host for the duration of the tournament. Some of their duties will

be to:-lead each team into the Opening

Ceremonies

-open and lock change rooms

-help with location for meetings etc.

-act as the team’s tour guide and liaison

Protests:

As per ASAA policy, a grievance committee has been organized to handle discipline and appeals. The committee will have the authority to address issues of a serious nature that may occur before, during or after a provincial championship match, or to hear appeals of the automatic suspension resulting from an ejection (see ASAA 2014/15 Policy Handbook). The committee may include, but not be limited to, the tournament chairperson, an official and two coaches not in conflict with the issue. Coaches wishing to volunteer may do so at the coaches meeting. All grievances will be referred to the Tournament Chair who will in turn make a presentation to the Grievance Committee. The decision of this committee is final and not subject to appeal.

Evaluation:

Coaches will be asked to complete an evaluation form which will be included in the registration package.

Parking:

During school hours, we ask that no parking occur in the bus loops at either school. Please leave room for emergency vehicles in front of each schools main entrance. Parking can occur along the street or visitor parking at either school. At Rosemary School extra parking can be done at the Church parking lots located on Gwen Avenue or Lupin Street directly across from the school.

Local Rules:

  • Players are asked to refrain from changing outside designated change rooms. Please do not change in the hallways outside classrooms or at the bench in the gymnasium itself.
  • The ASAA prohibits artificial noisemakers at provincial competitions. These include, but are not limited to, cow bells, horns, drums, garbage can lids, and plastic bottles filled with coins.
  • Abusive behavior including vulgar, obscene language or gestures may be cause for

expulsion from the gymnasium.

  • Spectators are asked stay off the court at half time and in between games to allow for sweeping.
  • All warm-up music will be provided by Rosemary School.
  • Please respect the safety of the players by telling all involved to kindly remove their

soiled/dirty outdoor shoes before entering the gym.

  • Rosemary School is a smoke-free workplace. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the school or on the school grounds.
  • Rosemary School is also Nut Aware. Please do not bring any whole nuts, peanut butter, traces of nuts or any coconut products due to allergies within our school population.
