1P Mentor / Hero / Role Model Paragraph Assignment Name:

Task: write a one paragraph description and explanation about your mentor / hero / or role model.

Content:

a.  Topic sentence – include the person’s name and connection to you

b.  Explain briefly why this person is important to you. You might list his or her good qualities.

c.  Give a physical description of the person so that the reader can visualize him/her.

d.  Expand on one of the reasons why this person is so admirable.

e.  Repeat step d as many times as you need to until you feel you have carefully explained why this person is your mentor / hero / role model.

f.  Concluding sentence that restates your opinion about this person.

Steps:

1.  Brainstorm about the things that make this person so admirable.

2.  Check the list of content from this sheet (a-f) to make sure you have all the types of information that you need.

3.  Turn your brainstormed ideas into a point form list.

4.  Try to put the items in the list in an order that makes sense for your paragraph.

5.  Write a rough version of the paragraph. Try to remember to double space. This gives you room to add more later or put in corrections.

6.  Check again that you have all the content that you need (a-f)

7.  Look at the rubric. Decide if you want to put in more effort to show a higher level of achievement.

8.  Edit and revise for COPS (Capitalization; Organization; Punctuation; Spelling)

9.  If you have a lot of things to fix, rewrite your paragraph.

10.  Ask a peer to read it and give you feedback.

11.  Write a good copy with any fixes that are needed. Please double space so the teacher can add comments.
