Scientific expertise: the Risk assessment Section scientific interest is the study of the mechanism of action of toxic substances at the molecular level and its relevance on human risk assessment. Identification of the mechanism of action of toxic substances at cellular and molecular level allows a better characterization of risk. The activity is focused on hazard characterization, the qualitative and/or quantitative evaluation of the nature of the adverse effects associate with biological, chemical and physical agents through the identification and characterization of biochemical mechanisms involved in cell response to toxic agents, exploring molecular pathways - role of calcium, reactive oxygen species, inflammatory mediators, activation of gene transcription in the onset and maintenance of the damage. The research activities are focused on central nervous system and immune system and the possible interactions between them.

Author or co-Author of more than 100 scientific publications on outstanding national and international journals.

Editor of six books on toxicological disciplines.
