College Credit Plus Informational Sheet

1.  If you have questions regarding College Credit Plus (CCP), please visit the FAQ Page at www.ohiohighered.org/node/5557 to see if the answer to your question is there.

2.  If your question is not answered on the FAQ Page or you do not receive timely information from your school, please contact the Ohio Department of Education toll free at (877) 644 – 6338 or via email at . Your student’s school and your area colleges will have the information you need to do your part on time.

3.  You and your student will need to meet with Andrea Brown, Westfall High School Counselor to talk about whether College Credit Plus is a good fit for your student or not. Please email Mrs. Brown at to schedule an appointment. Returning students may make a 15 minute appointment. New CCP students will need to schedule a 30 minute appointment time WITH a parent/guardian. ALL students will need to complete their Westfall “Checklist” BEFORE they arrive at their appointment time. Checklists can be found with the college applications.

4.  APPOINTMENT TIMES:

During the school day January 16-February 24. Please call for an appointment. Please do not wait until the last week to schedule an appointment, as I may be booked.

5.  If you and your student are interested in your student participating in College Credit Plus, they must fill out a Letter of Intent to Participate by no later than April 1st. This will be given to Mrs. Brown. A student is not obligated to participate in CCP if they fill out a Letter of Intent to Participate. They may change their mind to not participate in CCP at the beginning of the school year. However, it is the students’ responsibility to inform Mrs. Brown that they will not be participating in College Credit Plus for the 2018-2019 school year.

6.

7.  It is your responsibility to contact and/or check the website of participating colleges in your area. All public and participating private colleges or universities in the state are listed at www.ohiohighered.org/ccp. Ask them for College Credit Plus application forms, instructions and a list of criteria they will use to determine if your child is college-ready for admission to that institution. Remember that your child is applying to college. Westfall High School has no part in the acceptance or non-acceptance of your student. Participating colleges/universities that have agreements with Westfall High School are: Ohio Christian University, Ohio University- Chillicothe, Columbus State, and any other Colleges within a 30 mile radius.

Once your student is admitted to a college/university under College Credit Plus, he or she will be able to register for college courses. Again, conversations with Mrs. Brown and a college advisor can help your student decide which of the many available college courses would match his or her needs.

IMPORTANT: Under The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Acts (FERPA) parents are not able to request academic information regarding their student from a college/university their student is attending.

Please visit http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html for more details regarding this.

8.  Have your student register for classes with their chosen college/university for which they have received acceptance to and have them provide Mrs. Brown with a copy of the schedule for review. Mrs. Brown reviews schedules with students at the beginning of the year.

9.  I have google classroom pages for each institution set up. I will use google classroom to communicate with all CCP students about applications, end of the school year, testing, registration, and OVER THE SUMMER MONTHS. It is critical that students inform me by the end of the school year which institution that plan on attending. PARENTS: Please provide an email address so that I may invite you to the Google Classroom page. You will need to accept the invitation before you will receive any reminders.
