1800 UPPER CANYON ROAD, SANTA FE, NM 87505

Dear Teachers:

Audubon continues to make changes to better serve the needs of you and your students. As we enter the age of Common Core State Standards, anticipate the Next Generation Science Standards, and support Inquiry Science, Audubon is working hard to connect students to nature by effectively blending science concepts through direct contact with the natural world at the Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary. Please read carefully so you are aware of the changes. Here are some very important changes from previous years:

  • If you are a 1st or 5th grade teacher, please go ahead and apply for funding, however our main grant isspecific this year to 2nd – 4th grade programming. We are working on additional funds that could help support more scholarships for all grades.
  • 4thgrade level will be offered our 4-day, Ecosystem Exploration program to better emphasize, and build on the state standards, support the ISEC program, and prepare for the Next Generation Science Standards. (application begins on page 7)
  • This year we are requesting a letter after your program to share with funders detailing why this experience was important for your students and to share some stories to encourage future funding for classes. If we do not receive a letter by the end of the school year, it will affect your funding in future years.
  • Application specifics:
  • If you are not chosen this year, please understand that each year we have an extensive waitlist; we work to offer as many of those teachers programs in the following years. If additional funds become available we will offer programming to teachers on the waitlist.
  • Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on their explanation of how they intend to integrate Audubon’s Outdoor Science program into their curriculum and the need for science education in their classroom. Scholarshipswill not be decided on a first-come, first-serve basis but reviewed carefully by staff until all available scholarships are filled.
  • We encourage all interested parties to apply as soon as possible. We will be accepting applications through the end of September. However, much of the scheduling begins in late August and early September.
  • If possible, we would like to serve classes from the same school and grade level in the same week to assist Aububon’s funding commitments and scheduling. Please prioritize this option in your application although we will do our best to accommodate your requests if this cannot be attained.
  • Due to a change in Audubon’s policy, teachers selected to receive a scholarship will be awarded $130 bus stipend by mail within 45 days of your program date. We apologize for this unavoidable change and thank you for your understanding.

We greatly appreciate your care in reviewing this information and are happy to answer questions either by phone or email at or call 505-983-4609 and ask for Cara Goodwin, ext. 26.
