Rotary International Exchange: Eastern Canadian Adventure 2016

Day 1: Tuesday June 28: Arrive Toronto

This afternoon, meet at your hotel for check in. One of your chaperones will greet you in the lobby and give you a travel package. Before dinner, there will be a group briefing and some “icebreaker” games.

For those of you arriving by air, a Student Travel Society representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the awaiting coach for transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Wednesday June 29: Toronto – Niagara Falls – Toronto

After breakfast, enjoy a full day excursion to Niagara Falls. View the beautiful sights of nature's own masterpiece carved into the landscape by wind, ice and water over 12,000 years along the 7 miles (11 kilometers) of the Niagara River Gorge. Start your tour with an important and memorable attraction, Hornblower Niagara Cruise (Formerly called Maid of the Mist). North America's oldest tourist attraction has been taking passengers on an exhilarating journey into the dense mist of the Horseshoe Falls since 1846. Following some free time on Clifton Hill, meet up as a group and compete in a round of bowling. Before returning to Toronto have dinner in Niagara Falls (Planet Hollywood or similar).

Day 3: Thursday June 30: Toronto

This morning, meet your guide for a tour of Toronto. Today’s guided tour will lead you through the highlights of Toronto. Using a TTC (transit) pass, explore many of sites. Begin your tour at Casa Loma. Experience the only landmark castle in North America and Toronto’s premier historic attraction. Tour through secret passages and tunnels, visit the stables with an exhibition of vintage cars from the 1900s and take in a spectacular city view from the unique towers. Your tour continues to St. Lawrence market where you will have a chance to buy lunch in this unique Toronto facility. Next, explore Harbourfront Centre which has events that showcase the best in both Canadian culture and the rich mosaic of cultures from within our country and around the world. This evening, attend a Blue Jays Game.

Day 4: Friday July 1: Toronto – Ottawa

In the early morning you will travel to Ottawa, Canada’s capital city.

Upon arrival, check in at Carleton University’s Prescott Residence. Immediately after, continue to Parliament Hill to attend Canada Day celebrations!

Day 5: Saturday July 2: Ottawa – Montreal

This morning, spend some time at leisure on the athletic fields of Carleton University where you can play soccer, football, run the track or enjoy the sunshine (hopefully). After a picnic lunch on the field, continue to Montreal where you will tour the Biodome. An oasis in the heart of the city, the Montréal Biodôme recreates some of the most beautiful ecosystems of the Americas. This evening, meet your guide for a walking tour of the downtown core with visits to the downtown area, the Bell Centre, festival district, Chinatown, Mile-End and the Plateau.

Day 6: Sunday July 3: Montreal

This morning, meet your guide for a walking tour of Old Montreal. Old Montreal is what many visitors come to Montrealfor: old cobblestoned streets lined with buildings dating from the 17th through 19th centuries, grand old French restaurants, history museums, and the riverfront OldPort. During the summer, Place Jacques-Cartier is packed with street performers and restaurant terraces overflowing with tourists. This evening, there will be an optional walk up Mount Royal for a sunset view of the city.

Day 7: Monday July 4: Montreal – Quebec City

After breakfast, board your coach and travel to Quebec City. Follow your guide off the beaten paths and you will be charmed by Old Quebec, the only walled city in North America. You will be impressed by this UNESCO World Heritage site where fine old buildings and proud monuments line winding streets and picturesque places such as: the Château Frontenac, Dufferin Terrace, Notre-Dame-de-Québec basilica and Place Royale, the cradle of French civilization in North America.

This evening, enjoy a disco cruise with stunning views of Quebec City from the water.

Day 8: Tuesday July 5: Quebec City

Today’s full day excursion takes you to the outskirts of the city. Today’s excursion focuses on the BeaupreCoast and Mont Saint Anne. Your guide will escort you throughout the day to the suspension bridges in MontmorencyFalls, the SaintAnneCanyons and the St. Anne de Beaupre Cathedral. This evening, enjoy a traditional dinner at a Sugar Shack.

Day 9: Wednesday July 6:Quebec City – Moncton

Depart early this morning and travel to New Brunswick. Before arriving in Moncton, visit Tree Go for an outdoor adventure. This experience will have you climbing through trees (with the assistance of safety cables). Fun, freedom and personal reward are what TreeGO is all about. These aerial adventure courses offer a diverse and exciting experience within the comfort of knowing you’re attached to continuous safety cables. No matter your age or fitness level, our courses are designed for your pleasure in a unique outdoor environment.

This evening’s dinner is accompanied by a Murder Mystery performance.

Day 10: Thursday July 7: Moncton – Charlottetown

This morning, continue to Hopewell Rocks where you will walk on the ocean floor at low tide. Next, cross the ConfederationBridge into Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province. The ConfederationBridge joins the eastern Canadian provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, making travel throughout the Maritimes easy and convenient. The curved, 12.9 kilometre (8 mile) long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water, and more than a decade after its construction, it endures as one of Canada’s top engineering achievements of the 20th century.

After an independent lunch, enjoy a clam digging experience where you will have the opportunity to search for clams led by your expert guides who will share stories of the trade and traditional PEI.

Day 11: Friday July 8: Charlottetown

Begin your day with a Scavenger hunt through Charlottetown. The walk combines the technology of a hand-held GPS unit with the adventure of a scavenger hunt as you search for solutions to a customized crossword puzzle. Each location on the walk will reveal interesting facts about Charlottetown and the Island by showcasing some of the city's most beautiful architecture and the stories behind the buildings.

Following the tour, spend the afternoon at the beach where you will have free to time to swim, explore or play soccer in the sand. For anyone interested, there will be a professional sand sculpter who will demonstrate a step-by-step method to incredible castle building.

Conclude the day with an evening bonfire.

Day 12: Saturday July 9: Charlottetown – Halifax

This morning, board your coach and travel to Halifax. After an independent lunch, tour the Bedford Institute of Oceanography which is Canada's largest oceanographic research centre. Get up close and personal with starfish, crabs, sea cucumbers, lobsters and many other native marine species at the Sea Pavilion, which houses both touch and viewing tanks. Take a virtual reality tour of the Sable Gully, view a Titanic exhibit, and learn about the Grey Seals of Sable Island and deep sea corals located off our coast.

Day 13: Sunday July 10: Halifax

This morning, meet your guide for an interactive walking tour of Downtown Halifax. In the afternoon, continue to Peggy’s Cove for a visit and group photo. Next, you will take a lovely light hike along pristine coastal barrens. The group will be accompanied by an expert guide who is knowledgeable about this fascinating and beautiful eco-system. You will visit a rugged overlook with panoramic views of the open Atlantic Ocean.

Day 14: Monday July 11: Halifax Departure

Your tour concludes this morning. For those of you with a flight, you will be escorted to the airport. Your chaperones will assist you with check in.

CANCELLATION INFORMATION:

Loss/Damage. This insurance covers cancellation prior to the tour, tour delay/interruption FOR MEDICAL REASONS ONLY supported by a Doctor’s Certificate. However, certain psychological and psychiatric conditions and pre-diagnosed illness may not be covered. A passenger who did not purchase insurance and cancels the tour for NON-MEDICAL reasons, the following penalties will apply:

After the 1st deposit ………Loss of $400.00 + Insurance Premium

After the 2nd payment………Loss of $900.00 + Insurance Premium

After the final payment………75% of Tour Cost + Insurance Premium

Within 21 days of travel………NO REFUND

STS reserves the right to alter dates, times, routes and itinerary with or without notice as may be indicated by circumstances beyond its control.

CANCELLATIONS AFTER DEPARTURES:

There can be no adjustments for unused portions of a program unless arrangements have been made with STS prior to departure. Refunds will not be made for unused sightseeing tours, meals, accommodations, etc.

PASSPORTS MUST BE VALID FOR SIX MONTHS AT THE TIME OF DEPARTURE.
