Show + Sale Art Technician Job Posting

POSITION OVERVIEW

ReportingtotheAlbertaCollegeofArt+DesignStudents’AssociationInterim Special Events + Communications Coordinator and with support of otherACADSAStaff,theShow + Sale Art Technician isresponsibleforensuring that all aspects of inventory management, handling, installation and display are carried out in an efficient and professional manner to support the operations of the Show + Sale retail market.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilities & Operations
  • Maintain project workspaces including LRT, Cage, Outdoor container and Storefront storage spaces
  • Support inventory management during drop off and pick up periods
  • Assist in the planning, set-up, installation, tear-down and clean-up of Show + Sale.
  • Prepare galleries for exhibition, including moving and leveling plinths and walls, spackling and painting
  • Perform work to various degrees of specialization in the areas of art handling and movement, mount making, using adhesives and fasteners, and installing two and three dimensional work
  • Support Department Representatives and student volunteers in the installation of work using safe and secure handling procedures and security techniques
  • Assist in the installation of digital media and multimedia and electronics, if necessary
  • Help maintain tools, equipment, shop spaces, and art storage
  • Assist in gallery lighting design
  1. Communications
  2. Maintain effective contact with ACAD students, faculty, administration and the general public
  3. Provide regular updates to the Interim Special Events + Communications Coordinator and General Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A mature attitude andabilitytoworkindependentlyand be a responsive member of the ACADSA team
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with volunteer coordination and/or management/supervisory roles an asset
  • Working knowledge of artistic and creative production, materials, handling and display of artwork
  • Experience working in a gallery setting in a technician/support role considered an asset
  • Preference will be given to current students and recent graduates of ACAD
  • Must be available for the duration of the full duration of the sale including evenings and weekends

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part-time contract positionwith a schedule of up to approximately 15-40 hours/weekvaried over the term of the contractwith an hourly rate of $15.00 per hour. The position will commence November 1st, 2016andcontinuesuntilNovember 30th,2016.
