Conference Focuses

★In the first half of 2016, China faced the period of Golden March and Silver April as usual. Owing to the financing area loosing down and real estate getting better, a lot of stainless steel enterprises restarted the production. Since the third quarter, the production has been heating up, and it continues over the remaining months of 2016. Whether the downstream stainless steel enterprises can keep chromium market positive in 2017?

★For stainless steel industry, including stainless steel raw material industry, the environmental direction of supply-side structural reform has been confirmed. Only by following the trend can the enterprises grow and benefit, or they will be knocked out. Facing the frequent environmental problems, will the contradiction between supply and demand get obvious gradually?

★Jiangsu government give orders to demolish northern Jiangsu intermediate frequency furnaces within a prescribed time limit, which will have a great impact on the steel industry in Jiangsu province once the policy is confirmed. In Jiangsu province, the crude steel production capacity is near 150 million tons, and the intermediate frequency furnaces capacity is about 40 million tons, which takes up 27% of the whole crude steel capacity in Jiangsu. Moreover the capacity is mainly focused on the construction steel. How will demolishment of intermediate frequency furnaces affect chrome and nickel market?

★The foreign merchants are insisting on supporting the price, and the biggest reason of it has been the rigid demand for chrome ore in China. As the main chrome ore exporter to China, South Africa takes up 70% of the importing amount, which plays a leading role in the market. How will South Africa chrome ore price alliance affect the chromium market trend?

★China ferrochrome operation rate will remain high and the foreign merchants are positive about the after-market. Ferrochrome price in December 2016 is forced to increase by 130.8% month on month. There will be a fully release of production capacity, so the South Africa giants are very positive about the after-market.

★The lack of port inventories of chrome ore has become the key basis for the foreign merchants to support the price. Between February-November 2016, the total consumption of chrome ore in China was about 9.2434 million tons. However, the total import amount of chrome ore between January to October is 8.22 million tons. So there will be about 1 million tons of demand gap for chrome ore.

★Because of the environmental policy by Philippines, the exporting of nickel ore has been affected so much. In order to prevent the environmental deterioration, some of the nickel mines has been shut down. Local nickel ore output has been decreased obviously, which will have a big impact on China importing Philippines nickel ore.

★With Indonesia ferronickel production capacity released gradually, the worrying about nickel ore supplying shortage which support the price going-up has been slowed down. According to the process of Chinese enterprises going to Indonesia to build plants, this capacity is expected to release in 2017. How will the releasing of Indonesia ferronickel capacity affect the China nickel market?

★Indonesia banned the export of unprocessed nickel ore in 2014. If Indonesia recover the export of crude ore, the cost of local small smelters will increase, also some small manufacturers will be threatened. The key factor is whether the export policy of Indonesia nickel ore will change or not.


★With the development of futures market and strengthening of financial feature in non-ferrous metals, an increasing number of ferroalloy enterprises are participating in the futures platform. However, there will be some risks in participating in futures market, so enterprises should stick to the bottom line in some respects. They should make good use of futures instruments to benefit the production and management. “Combination of futures and spots” +“hedging”, how do the enterprises control risks?
