Materials:

●“Sample College Interview Questions” Worksheet

●“Sample Job Interview Questions for High School Students” Worksheet

●“Career Pictionary/Charades” Game

Procedure:

  1. Review what occured during the last session.
  1. Ice Breaker: Pictionary - Students will play “Career Charades” using careers that the counselors have predetermined (See Career Pictionary/Charades Game). Allow about 5 minutes for this game to be played.
  1. Hand out the “Sample College Interview Questions” and “Sample Job Interview Questions for High School Students” worksheets. Give the students a few minutes to review the questions.
  1. Once students have had a chance to review the question sheets the mock interviews will begin. Have the students divide into two groups, one group per counselor. Have each group sit in seperate circles. Ask if one student would like to start the interview. Ask that student to state their name and if they are applying for a job or a college. If they are applying for a job, ask what job. Pick a question that correlates with what the student is applying for. After the student has answered the question, lead a discussion about what the student did well and how the answer could be improved. Mention how the student could incorporate personal abilities, skills, interests, and motivations into the answer.
  1. Have the student that answered the question pick someone to answer the next question. The student who answered the previous question will ask the next question. Make sure the students state their name and if they are applying to a college or a job. This cycle continues until everyone has had a chance to answer a question.
  1. Closing: Let the students know that you will be coming in once more for half of a period. It will be during this period that the students will complete the post-test survey.
