Site ExperiencesUtilizing INTERMACS/Pedimacs Data

Intermacs is happy to offerCoordinators and VAD/HF Physician Trainees the opportunity topresent a poster at the 11th Annual Meeting that will summarize how sites utilize registry data. Our“General Topic”contains the following categories:

  • Understanding Relationship of Patient Profiles to Outcomes
  • Risk and Impact of Site Adverse Events
  • Identification of Targets for Improvement
  • Results of Program Quality Initiatives
  • Preparation and Response to Joint Commission/DNV

Poster Submission Instructions:

  1. Choosing from one of the listed categories, poster content should include:
  1. Brief Statement of the purpose of the poster
  2. Summary of results, presented in detail to support the conclusion
  3. Conclusion
  1. A draft for the poster (which can consist of text, tables, figures, images)should be forwarded to Grant Studdard () by 1/13/2017. Please be sure to include your name and the name of your center.Submissions will be selected for presentation based on scoring by the Intermacs leadership. Decisions will be returned to authors by 1/27/2017. The poster presentation session will be limited to 10 posters.
  1. The author/presenter is responsible for generating the poster and bringing the poster to the meeting. There will be a point of contact designated at the meeting for set up and display guidance.
  2. Any author who accepts an invitation to give a poster presentation agrees to present only the data described in the poster.
  1. Submission of a poster signifies that the author(s) give permission for the poster to be reproduced in print in the Intermacs Quarterly Newsletter or in digital formats of Intermacs.
  1. Use of Institutional Names and Commercial Trade Names: For purposes of blind scoring, institutional names must be omitted whenever possible in the title and body of the text. Authors are requested to avoid the use of commercially branded medications or devices.

Instructions for General Poster Display Preparation and Presentation

SET UP, DISPLAY and DISMANTLE SCHEDULE

Poster Session: Friday, March 3, 2017

Posters may be dropped off at meeting registration

Presentation Time: 5:45 PM – 6:45 PM

Posters may be displayed until Saturday afternoon

  1. Failure to display your poster abstract deprives the audience and leaves a space in the program that might havebeen filled by another presenter.
  2. Any posters remaining after your assigned removal time will be discarded.
  3. Your poster will not be mounted or presented unless one or more authors are registered for the meeting.
  4. Preparation of Illustrations and Tables (commonly suggested guidelines)
  1. Professionally drawn charts, tables, and graphics increase the effectiveness of the poster.

Handlettered material should be in heavy lettering at least 3/8" high. Typewritten material is difficult to readand should not be used. Bulletin (3/16") typewriters may be used if absolutely necessary.

  1. Illustrations and tables should be kept relatively simple to maximize legibility. Avoid "arty" style andkeep captions brief. Number or letter and arrange illustrations and tables in the preferred sequence inwhich they will be viewed.
  2. Lines in graphs should be heavy. Symbols, letters, and numbers should be large enough to be seenfrom a distance of six feet.
  3. A backing of colored paper for each item on the poster is an inexpensive yet attractive and useful wayof enhancing the legibility of the data. As in the preparation of slides, contrast between lettering andbackground is very important.
  4. Material to be displayed should be placed on regular weight paper or light weight cardboard, as heavyboard will be difficult to attach.
  5. You are required to indicate on your poster any off-label or unapproved product uses you will bediscussing.
  1. Maximum dimensions for the posters are 30’’ x 40’’ (landscape view recommended). See the illustration on page 3.
