Staff Overview and Wellness Program Presentation

Heather Goodrich

Heather Goodrich is the Wellness Coordinator for Clackamas Fire District #1. Her work focuses on improving the health, fitness and emotional well-being of firefighters, staff and their families. Heather has more than 17 years experience in worksite wellness with 15 years specifically in fire service wellness. In addition to her work with Clackamas Fire, Heather has worked with Boring Fire, Canby Fire, Clackamas County Sherriff’s Office, Gresham Police, TriMet, Oregon Department of Transportation, Columbia River PUD, PGE and Oregon Health & Science University delivering wellness services. She has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from Oregon State University with an emphasis in Commercial and Industrial Fitness.

As Wellness Coordinator, Heather has created a comprehensive program at Clackamas Fire to include medical, fitness, injury prevention, health education and behavioral health programming. In 2001, Heather was asked to present about Clackamas Fire’s successful wellness program at the 16th Annual John P. Redmond Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona. In 2005, Heather collaborated with the IAFF to produce a 16 hour recruit curriculum on all aspects of firefighter wellness. This curriculum was introduced at the 18th Annual John P. Redmond Symposium in Honolulu, Hawaii and distributed to all departments in the IAFF.

Heather served a term on the Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness and Sports and was the chair of the Workplace Wellness Planning Committee for the Oregon Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Conference. She is a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist, Certified Fire Service Peer Fitness Trainer and has many certificates in the medical, fitness and behavioral health domains. In her spare time, Heather enjoys reading, movies, happy hours and being active with her firefighter husband and young son.

Alicia McVicker

Alicia McVicker joined Clackamas Fire District #1 in 2008, as the Wellness Assistant. In this role, she has been able to develop lasting relationships with fire district employees, helping them take ownership over all aspects of their health. Alicia’s main duties include developing and delivering on-site wellness presentations, creating health education materials, conducting health coaching for behavior change, developing individual fitness and nutrition improvement plans, preparing the annual OSHA 300 log, maintaining District injury records and assisting with annual pre-physicals and fitness testing.

Alicia earned her Health Promotion and Fitness Management Degree from Southern Oregon University. She brings over 10 years of health education experience to Clackamas Fire; with a focus on nutrition, weight management, and disease prevention. She also holds both an ACE certified Personal Trainer certification, as well as a Peer Fitness Trainer certification. In her past five years with Clackamas Fire, Alicia has given over 900 presentations on various health, fitness, safety and disease prevention topics. By delivering these presentations on-site at each fire station and division, Alicia is able to reach everyone in the organization. Building rapport and trust is what makes Alicia successful at Clackamas Fire.

She enjoys all aspects of wellness and takes a strong personal interest in living a healthy and active lifestyle. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, gardening, and running.
