10th Annual Nursing Inquiry and Innovations Conference

You are invited to submit an abstract to the10th AnnualNursing Inquiry and Innovations (Evidence-Based Practice and Research Conference) sponsored by UC San Diego Health, Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Council.

Abstracts are welcome from all healthcare team members, and students

Priority will be given to projects that align to specific Magnet Sources of Evidence, organizational goals, and/or the Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Purpose

The purpose of this conference is to celebrate nursing involvement in advancing the profession through evidence-based practice change, performance improvement and research.The conference shares new knowledge and disseminates project/research outcomes through podium presentations, poster presentations and Artistic expressions.

Proceedings

Proceedings will be available electronically for all in attendance. A brochure with abstracts and contact information of presenters will be available at the conference. The proceedings will not be copyrighted. You may publish the paper or abstract elsewhere.

Eligibility

Quantitative research, qualitative research, mixed methods research, evidence-based practice/innovative projects, performance improvement projects and transformation of knowledge into art are eligible.

Only completed projects/research with reportable outcomes will be eligible for podium presentations.

Eligible presenters are student/preceptor dyads, nurses or inter-professional teams.

Notification

The first author of accepted artwork, presentations and posters will be notified by March 24, 2017.

Acceptance of author to present at the conference must be confirmed by March 28, 2017.

Abstract Grading Criteria - Your abstract will be scored using these criteria:

Performance Improvement (PI) Project

  • Statement of the problem
  • Performance improvement model stated (e.g: PDSA, PDCA)
  • Description of the change process
  • Results demonstrated graphically compared to baseline
  • Implications/significance
  • Sustainability plan
  • Alignment to Professional Practice Model or Magnet Elements of Performance

Evidence Based Practice (EBP)/Innovative Project

  • Statement of the problem
  • EBP Model declared (e.g: EBPI 8 A’s, Iowa)
  • PICO Question (Population, intervention, comparison, outcome)
  • Description of evidence-based innovation
  • Results demonstrated graphically compared to baseline
  • Implications/significance
  • Sustainability plan
  • Alignment to Professional Practice Model or Magnet Elements of Performance

Quantitative Research

  • Specific aims or objectives of the study;
  • Rationale or background for the study;
  • Research methodology including design, sample, and data collection procedure
  • Results demonstrated graphically
  • Implications or significance
  • Alignment to Professional Practice Model or Magnet Elements of Performance

Qualitative Research

  • Phenomenon of interest
  • Specific aims or objectives of the study;
  • Rationale or background for the study;
  • Research methodology including design, sample, and data collection procedure
  • Results demonstrated graphically or in a figure, as appropriate
  • Alignment to Professional Practice Model or Magnet Elements of Performance
  • Implications or significance

Mixed Methods Research (See both Qualitative and Quantitative Research Above)

Nursing Art

  • Title of EBP/PI/Research project/outcomes that will be translated into art
  • OR Title of art that correlates to an element of the nursing professional practice model
  • i.e. Caring Relationships, Healing Environment
  • Declared art form (e.g: Photography, Poetry, Short story, Fine art, Music) (cont.)
  • Project outcomes or description of professional practice model element conveyed through the artform
  • Implications or significance to nursing
  • Alignment to Professional Practice Model or Magnet Elements of Performance

Abstract Format Requirements

Only abstracts that conform to the Abstract Format Requirements will be accepted.

  1. 1-inch margins
  2. Times Roman or Courier Font with a size 12 font
  3. Abstracts must be clean and error free
  4. Left justify all paragraphs; do not indent to begin a paragraph
  5. Body text single-spaced with 1 line breaks/returns between paragraphs
  6. For content, see methods criteria on previous page
  7. Underline, bold and left justify subheadings on a new line (ex., Objective; Background; Methodology; Results; and Conclusion). Subheadings may be modified to meet methods criteria on previous page.
  8. The abstract cannot be longer than 1 page in length, excluding graphs/tables
  9. Do not put your name or other identifying information in the body of the abstract.
  10. Save the abstract as a separate document

Please label both files with a common keyword representing the title of the project. Use the same keyword in the subhead header of your email with the words “Inquiry Conference”. Use the following example as a template:
