STEP 1 –Research -information gathering
These answers should be acquired from the school’s recent self-study. Please reference where the self-study answers came from. If the self-study has no answer to a question, simply note that.
1)Why does your school exist?
- Provide the school’s mission/ philosophy.
- What does the school hope to support and transform in the lives of its students beyond academics?
- Describe the means by which the school fulfills #1 a & b.
2)Reflection on current school climate:
- What is the breadth and depth of the understanding of #1 above in your community – students, parents, teachers, board of directors, administrators, coaches, alumni, etc.?
- Comment on the successes and challenges of the implementation of #1 b above. Please ensure your answer includes:
- Relationships:
- the degree to which every member of the community feels safe, and feels to be an equal member of the community.
- the “spirit” of the school community in and outside of the classroom.
- Leadership: board of directors leadership to student leadership.
- Looking externally: benchmarking, research, professional development.
- School commitment: faculty evaluation, budget/resources.
Step 2 Reflection/ committee discussions
The school’s committee should reflect on the answers in Step 1. If the need for more information from the community emerges, please list the need and make gathering the information part of the plan for growth after the visit.
Discussion should include items such as:
- What are the differences and commonalities – among divisions, among departments, academic and non-academic segments of the community?
- How has the school’s program evolved over time?
- How has the school adapted to the changing environment?
Step 3 Report -written up and sent to CSEE
Emerging out of the committee research (step 1) and discussions (step 2) a report is then formed. This report should include:
1)A brief factual overview and description of the process used to arrive at the report. This would include a list of who was on the committee, timeline for the process, etc.
Your report will have the following sections:
School Identity
Diversity and Inclusion
Chapel Program
Character Education
Service Learning
2)Each section should have a factual overview of the program
3)Based on the research and discussion list the strengths of each program (keep appreciative inquiry in mind)
4)Based on the research and discussion list the areas for growth for each program (don’t jump ahead to solutions just discover the needs)
Step 4 Plan for Growth
In light of your analysis and report from the CSEE team that visited your school, create an action plan to address the following:
1)Appreciative Inquiry: A plan to ensure that those areas that have been identified as notably strong remain strong and/ or how these strengths can be built upon to move the school forward.
2)Accept/ Reject the recommendations: If accepted, the plan to implement them. If rejected, provide the rationale. Include
3)Plans for staying in-touch with current research and best practices
*CSEE will return in four years to hear about progress towards goals.
