BCTRA is dedicated to promoting and developing the profession of Therapeutic Recreation in British Columbia by:
·  Inspiring excellence and enthusiasm in practitioners through consistent and high quality education and professional development, access to resources, membership engagement and mentoring opportunities
·  Advocating for and maintaining standards of practice, code of ethics, membership and continued competency criteria, for the benefit of our members, partners, the public and key stakeholders
·  Providing leadership to advance and grow the field through strategic planning, advocacy and increasing public awareness

1)  Task Group Meeting Updates (Jen)

a)  Schedule task group on February 15th at Sunnyhill 10-12. Email sent out, 3 people who are able to make it; to work on terms of reference together.

b)  Brenda to send summary of minutes document from past regulations committee to Jen.

c)  Jen to look into using teleconference line in future to enable greater participation.

2)  Education updates (Sheila – Marita Kloseck Education Event, TR journal update, Forsyth Park learning – webinaire series)

a)  Marita Kloseck Education Event – Fraser Health Authority workshop, mental health, LCM Etc. Future of TR, changing demographics within healthcare, where things are going. 3-4:30. Videoconference.

b)  February 20th, 2014 3pm Sunnyhill Gym. Registration form complete, learning objectives and title will be sent out to everyone; needs to be complete whether in person or teleconference. Instructions for videoconference on registration form. No charge.

c)  TR journal update: Broadcast was sent however not posted as of yet. Lisa Healy is working on getting TR journals posted.

d)  Forsyth Park learning – Flyer to be posted on website to cover services, general information. Sheila will send poster to Robin to post to website. Will send broadcast to Robin for website.

e)  Webinar series – ATRA and NTRC host webinar education sessions, agencies can now join education sessions. Sheila to send broadcast to Robin for website.

f)  Melanie to help Robin with posting things to the BCTRA website. Great ceu opportunities!

g)  Kylah queries charging other provinces to pay to join education sessions. Good way to gain revenue.

3)  “A Misrepresentation – incorrect use of ‘certified’” (Jasmine)

a)  Email from member alerting that someone is using the term Certified Recreation Therapist as a designation, however this person is not certified. Certified Recreation Therapist is not a designated title.

b)  Jen to write a letter be sent to Stenberg College to notify them of the title misuse

c)  Jen to write a letter to NCTRC to notify them (have certain rights in Canada as they certify in Canada). Serena Malte (?) a good contact as a resource, Jen to get in contact with.

d)  Recommended Jen puts a pamphlet in letters to Stenberg and NCTRC. Jen to email NCTRC for promotional material.

4)  HSA convention (Jasmine)

a)  Invitation sent to president to attend HSA convention. April 11th and 12th, 2014. The 2014 HSA Annual Report will be available for viewing 30 days in advance of the Convention – this report will contain a draft Convention Agenda.

5)  Education Committee Terms of Reference (Sheila)

a)  Would like Education Committee terms of reference approved (sent out to board members prior to meeting). All approved!

6)  Promotions Committee Update (Melanie)

a)  Robin sent out broadcast, 3 people interested. Wonders whether terms of reference are necessary for group? Board thinks it is not necessary for this committee.

b)  Melanie to give Kylah address so she may send out ATRA education package to promote TR profession.

c)  Melanie suggests creating a couple of different types of posters.

7)  Membership Updates (Brenda)

a)  Will create documents to capture how many members we have, how many CTRS’etc. What does our membership look like? Many members have diploma and degrees that were grandfathered into BCTRA. Currently 280 professional members. 67 student members. 9 supporting members.

b)  Received request from HR person with interior health to check on a specific individual to see if they were actually a member. Responded with various membership options/pathways, and referred to website. Are we legally allowed/able to confirm that the person is a member? – No. Have the member tell the HR person/inquirer.

8)  AGM minutes update (Meghan)

a)  Meghan to look over notes from Sarah’s notes and what was left on the USB drive to rewrite minutes with Jasmine as Sarah is currently unable to. Will send out to board members to review before sending out to broadcast.

9)  Next meetings (including Strategic Planning) (Meghan)

a)  March 22nd will be date for Strategic Planning in Vancouver

b)  March 5th (Wednesday) date for next monthly board meeting

c)  April doodle sent out, members did not receive/did not work. Meghan will resend.
