Theme: Hobbies

Grammar theme: Revision of the Present Indefinite Tense and the Past Indefinite Tense

Aims:

1)Revision of the previous grammar themes through doing some exercises.

2)Enable students to speak English while answering teacher’s questions and doing different tasks.

3)Enable students to think about each other, about themselves, about their interests in English, to understand who they are.

What day is it today? Who is absent?

What date is it today? What’s your home task?

The home task was to read and translate the text “hobbies” p. 40 ex. 2, to learn all the new words and word combinations. And revise the formation of Past and Present Indefinite Tenses. (Students and the teacher discuss how to form these tenses.)

  1. The main course of the lesson

Today we will speak about yourself you will try to tell each other everything about you personality, what do you like to do, what are your hobbies, everything that you know about yourself. You will try to think in English what you are. At the end of the lesson you will know everything about each other. Before speaking about you let’s know what hobby is, what hobbies people have.

4)What groups of hobbies do you know? (I know 4 groups of hobbies: doing things, making things, collecting things and learning things.)

5)What are the English fond of? (The English are fond of gardening and growing flowers, esp. roses.)

6)What is a new and popular hobby for grown-ups and children now? (It’s playing computer games.)

7)What can people collect? (People can collect stamps, coins, books, match-boxes, records, post-cards, toys, matches.)

8)What is the usual hobby for people? (The usual hobby is collecting tape-recordings of operas, folk-music or jazz concerts.)

9)How can hobbies help people? (Hobbies can help you to obtain knowledge.)

Speaking: Who Are You?

You probably know more about yourself than other people. Who are you? This doesn’t just mean what your name is. But it means even more: what kind of person you are? Now we’ll try to make a diagram at the blackboard. There we’ll have different parts, each of you will tell about yourself and put this part on the blackboard, and we’ll know only one part about each other, but at home you’ll write a diagram and a composition about yourself like we did in class but taking all the parts of the diagram.

(Students receive a part of the diagram with the task in it and he should speak on the topic given in his diagram. Then he puts it on the blackboard. At the end of the lesson there will be a diagram on the blackboard.)

  1. I’m whom I love.

I’m a very kind person. I love everybody but most of all I love my family, my parents. I also love animals, esp. cats and dogs. I love all people that love me and which do only good things to me, help me in all situations. If you love people they will return you their love.

  1. I’m what I like.

I like different things. I like spring, because it’s warm in spring, everything is new and fresh. I like my birthday because I receive a lot of presents and all the people show and express their love to me. I like good food, esp. sweets and candies because I’m a big eater and I have a sweet tooth. I like my flat because it’s large, light and very comfortable. I can have a rest after a difficult day and receive positive energy. I like tasty smell and good perfumes.

  1. I’m what I wear.

I like comfortable clothes, in which I can feel myself comfortable and do everything during the day. Usually I’m in jeans and sweaters. On special occasions I wear classical clothes: dresses, skirts with a blouse. I don’t like shoes with high heels. But I like jackets.

  1. I’m what I eat.

I like to eat different kind of food. But most of all I like fruits, vegetables and sweets. I rarely eat meat and dairy products. I hate milk, fat food and butter. I don’t follow a diet and I don’t count calories. I eat when I want to eat. I think that person should eat everything he wants because he has only one life and we should take everything from it. We live to eat and eat to live.

  1. I’m what I believe in.

I still believe in fairy-tales thought I know that they are not true they are myths. I believe that people can be kind and fair but this life made them cruel, greedy, selfish and unfair. I believe in my success, that one day I’ll reach my aim and I’ll be happy.

  1. I’m what I fear.

I fear death. I don’t want to die I fear it. I fear darkness. I fear bad people because they can bring a lot of harm into my life and to me. I fear being alone in this life, I fear of loosing people that are close to me. I want to be among people that love and respect me. Thought sometimes I can be tires of people. I fear insects and some wild animals.

  1. I’m what I work at.

I like my work; I like to do this work. I’m a teacher of English. English is my hobby for a long time, it’s my life. I love English even more than my native language. I’m eager to speak only in English. And my work is to reach children to speak English, to think in this language, to use it in everyday life as I know it and even better.

  1. I’m what I wish.

I’m a dreamer. I like to dream whenever I have free time. As many people in this world I wish to be happy, I wish my family and all my relatives to be healthy, wealthy and happy. I wish all people in the world be kind, not cruel and love each other. I wish to live in a peaceful world.

  1. I’m a child of my parents.

I think almost everyone has a family. I also have. I have a mother and a father, I also have an aunt and an uncle, and they are like my second parents. And I’m the only child of 2 mothers and 2 fathers. They love me a lot and they love me too. Even now they consider me a child though I’m 23. They want to know everything about my life. But it’s fair enough because they are my parents.

Now you know some facts about each other. But you are eager to know everything in details. That’s why your home task will be the following
