1. Required Supplies: In this class you will need the following supplies:

•college-ruled spiral, at least 150 pages (8 1/2x11) •map pencils •blue or black pens

•wide rule notebook paper •scissors •highlighter

•glues •3” x 5” index cards •pencils

•pocket folder

All supplies are due by Monday, August 31. You are responsible for bringing supplies to class daily and for promptly replacing any supplies as needed during the year. Should you have problems obtaining these supplies by Friday, please bring a parent/guardian note.

2. Assignments: Assignments and due dates are to be recorded daily in your Planner. Assignments are posted on my webpage for one week.

3. Late Work: All assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date. After that time, they are late.

A. Homework: Assignments are accepted one day late for half credit. Most assignments are an extension of classwork. 1 day late – 25 point deduction, or 50 point deduction if the material is discussed in class that day.

If you have no homework, consider highlighting materials and preparing flashcards for the next test.

B. Daily work: Students who do not finish their class work should complete it at home; this should not be considered homework, as not all class members will find it necessary to complete it at home. You will be given the opportunity to hand in daily assignments one day late with a reduction in grade. Students are expected to finish all late assignments, as they frequently become test/quiz material.

1 day late – 25 points

C. Major assignments will be accepted up to 3 days late, with reduction in grade.

1 day late – 15 points 2 days late – 25 points 3 days late – 35 points

4. Make Up Work: When you are absent, check my website for assignments and warm ups and to update your Planner. Tests or quizzes are to be made up before or after school. It is your responsibility to collect the assignments, complete them, and hand them in to your teacher. The KISD student handbook states that you have the same number of days you were absent to complete the assignments and turn them in.

5. Test days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Quizzes may be given on any day. You will also have notebook and Planner quizzes and tests.

6. Grading Policy: The breakdown of the average in this class is as follows:

Major grades: 60% Daily grades: 30% Homework: 10%

9. Parent Connection Online Gradebook Access – Parents, you may view your child’s grades online, using the Parent Connection portal for GradeSpeed. Registration information is available on Kleb’s webpage. Please take advantage of this means of monitoring your child’s academic progress throughout the year.

10. STAAR: All 8th grade students take the Social Studies STAAR test in the spring. As it is a comprehensive test covering the entire year’s curriculum, the best way to prepare is to complete assigned work and study for tests and quizzes throughout the year.

11. Contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns. As I am unable to take phone calls during class hours, e-mail is often the most reliable contact method.
