FIRST AID

Plan опг work:

1.Receive base knowledge of first aid.

2.Familiarize methods of stops а bleeding.

3.F amiliarize methods of resuscitation.

4.Conclusion.

Base knowledge оС first aid

What is first aid?

The саге given before emergency medical help arrives ап literally теап the difference
between life and death, but knowing the соттест thing to do if someone has а nosebleed
or cut is also important. А blocked airway сап kill someone in three to four minutes, but
it сап take more than eight minutes for ап ambulance to arrive. So а simple procedure
such as opening someone's airway сап save their life while they're waiting for
emergency medical help. This means you're more likely to give first aid to someone уоu
know than а stranger. Knowing what to do will allow уоu to react rapidly if ап accident
does happen.

Уопг duties as а first aider

First aid is based onknowledge, training and expertise. А first aider will have
completed а practical training course under the supervision of а recognised first aid
organisation.

Ifyou're present at the scene of ап accident, or during а medical emergency, уоu need
to go through the following stages:

Assess the situation

  • Take control ofyour feelings, don't act impulsively
  • Look for continuing danger, to the casualties and to yourself
  • Decide whether to саll for emergency help

Assess the casualties

А quiet casualty тауЬеап indication that the person is unconscious. Quiet casualties
should always Ье your first priority.

  • Prioritise treatment of casualties according to severity of injury
  • Check response Ьу asking casualties whether they are аН right
  • Check airway
  • Check breathing
  • If а casualty isn't breathing, ask somebody to саll 01 immediately and give 30
chest compressions followed Ьу two rescue breaths
  • Continue this sequence until emergency help arrives or the casualty starts to show
    some response

Further assistance to casualties

  • Aim to give аН casualties early and effective help
  • Апапgе for casualties to Ье taken to hospital where necessary
  • Remain with casualty until help апivеs
  • Prevent cross-infection between yourself and the casualty
  • Take саге of casualty's possessions and ensure they ассотрапу the casualty to
    hospital

Stops а bleeding

Blood сагпев essential oxygen around the body to the various organs. An average adult
has about 6 litres of blood, if they lose а litre of this the amount of oxygen reaching vital
organs will significantly decrease.

What is it?

The severity of bleeding depends оп the location, size and depth of the wound causing
it. If the bleeding's severe, it сапЬе dramatic and distressing.

First aid aims

  • Stop blood coming out of the wound
  • Minimise shock
  • Prevent infection
  • Prevent cross- infection between the casualty and yourself and, i f necessary,
апапgе for casualty to go to hospital

Actions

  • Check whether there's ап object embedded in the wound
  • If there's nothing embedded, press оп wound - ask the casualty to use their own
hand or use your hand, ideaHy over something clean, like а t-shirt ог towel
  • Raise wound аоочс level of casualty's heart
  • If there's ап object embedded in the wound, push оп either side of the object to
stop blood coming out of the wound

Resuscitation

If you're оп your own, саВап ambulance before уоu start resuscitation.
What is it?

This technique is for ап adult casualty who is unresponsive and isn't breathing normally.
Actions:

1. Check for vital signs

  • Check for response - gently shake casualty's shoulder and ask if they're аН right
  • Ifthere's по response, shout for help and ореп casualty's airway.
  • Check for breathing - look for chest movement, listen for sounds of breathing and
[ееl for casualty's breath оп your cheek.
  • Do this for ten seconds. Ifthe person is not breathing normally, уоu must саНап
ambulance and then start CPR which is а combination of chest compressions and
    rescue breaths

2.Giving chest compressions

  • Place your hands оп center of casualty's chest and, with the heel of your hands

(which should Ье linked опе over the other), press down 30 times

  • Depress chest to а third of its depth (4-5ст)
  • Do this at а rate of 100 times а minute
    3. Giving rescue breaths
  • Ореп the airway, gently tilt the head back and lift the chin
  • Pinch the person' s nose; place your mouth over their mouth and - Ьу blowing
steadily - attempt 2 rescue breaths each lasting опе second
  • Give two rescue breaths
  • Continue this sequence of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths until
emergency help arrives or the casualty starts to breathe normally.

Conclusion

Having done this work we have leamed elements of the first medical aid.
Намеfamiliarized with methods of а stop of а bleeding and resuscitation.
