PTO Meeting 3-8-16

Start time 10:31am

I.  President Report: Crista Moore on behalf of Tara Burmis Twigg – Tuesday May 17th will be the 4th grade farewell. If anyone would like to help it is from 12:30-4:00pm. The shirts will run $2.75 each. One person has expressed interested in joining the PTO board for next year. The board will vote in May for next year’s board. There was no interest in the school supply kits for next year, so this option will not take place for next year. I Love to Read night went great!! PTO received $1,500 from Target red cards. Start to think about field day and if shirts are wanted. There is around $2,600 in the budget for them, so around $3.42 a shirt. It was asked if the PTO will pay for the teacher’s shirts this year. Some PTO members feel that if shirts are bought that this should also include teachers too. Darcy agreed to get all the shirt sizes for the kids, Crista will contact Bob for pricing on the shirts, and Rebecca and Renea agreed to help sort all the shirts.

Grants:

1.  Mr. Coppadge presented, “River Birch Lego Derby”. He is requesting $1,032.16 for 90 pinewood pro brick wheel kits, and 6 classic large creative brick boxes. This would be for the entire 4th grade class, and would be used multiple years. This will help students apply their knowledge of force and motion leaned in their current motion and deigns science kits. Question was asked on tracks, and plans of paying for the track. Mr. Coppadge shared that outside grants are being looked into, but share the project cost would be from $1,055 to $1,715 for the track and timer clocks. PTO reminded him that next month is the last month to turn in grants if he would still like any assistance from the PTO.

2.  Mrs. Chalos is requesting $450 for, “Discovering new worlds through NON FICTION”. This would serve 29 students in her class and could be used next year too. In total this would assist in getting 60 books, with 7 different titles. These will be used in book club in her class. These books will also help with all of the reading standers.

II.  Activities: Renea Marsh – I Love to Read night was well attended; around 150 students came plus their families. There were leftover cookies and s’mores that were given the next day to the teachers. There is also a large amount of hot chocolate left for future events. Between game night and I love to read night, 60 plus books have been given out. There should be enough books left over to help out with the kindergarten camp this summer and possibly the kindergarten round up event.

III.  Treasurer’s Report: Crista for Katie Richman – Budget looks great moving into next year.

IV.  Fundraising: Jen Ford, Crista Moore, and Darcy Spees – Everything is in place for the Spirit Night at Chick-fil-a on Wednesday the 9th all day. Remember to tell them whom your student’s teacher is while going. The winning class will get an ice cream party! Ambassadors will be there from 5-8pm to help. Future fundraising was discussed, and it’s still unsure of future plans for next year. At the next meeting more final plans will be decided so contacts can get signed.

V.  Helping Hands: Crista for Leslie Tislow – Help will be needed for Live Stock day at River Birch.

VI.  Corporate Promotions – no news
