A Clam Named Ann

1. Clams seem to have a big smile, but some clams are not happy. One sad clam was named Ann. Why was she sad? She did not like to stay in the sand with other clams.

2. Ann said, “Why can’t I swim with the otters?” Her mom said, “That’s silly. Otters eat clams. They don’t swim with clams.”

3. One day, a shark was swimming near the clams. A little otter was swimming near the clams, too. The little otter did not see the shark.

4. As the otter came to close to Ann, she opened her shell and yelled, “Shark, shark. Hide, hide.”

5. The little otter hid in the weeds, and the shark went away. The next day, the otter came back. She said to the clam, “Thank you for saving me. What can I do in return?”

6. You know what Ann said, and you know what they did. So if you see an otter swimming with a clam on its tail, you will know who they are.
