M.M. - Performance IN COLLABORATIVE PIANO
Training highly skilled collaborative pianists is the focus of this new degree at Ithaca College! Students in this program will continue technical and musical development through not only the collaborative lessons, but solo piano lessons as well. Additionally, instruction and performing experience in sonata/duo repertoire, vocal literature, chamber music and larger ensembles, are included in the curriculum.
Recital requirements include performances with instrumentalists and vocalists. The highly active performance scene at Ithaca College provides an abundant source of performance opportunities for the Collaborative Piano major, as well as provides ample numbers of collaborators. The opportunity to be involved in large ensembles, contemporary ensemble, opera and musical theatre, all under the direction of engaging and committed faculty members & conductors, offers students in the program in-depth and multi-faceted training and experience.

M.M. – Performance in COLLABORATIVE PIANO
Admission Prerequisites
• An undergraduate degree, normally with a major in Piano Performance or
Accompanying, from an accredited four-year institution with a minimum of 3.0 GPA preferred.
• An on-site audition/interview with the appropriate applied music faculty.
Audition repertoire requirements:
(Alternate selections may be allowed for the audition upon approval of the Director of the Collaborative Piano Program.)
1) Solo piece(s) of piano repertoire – memorized & totaling approx. 10 minutes of music;
2) Two movements from a major work for wind or string instrument and piano
to be chosen from the following list:
Franck: Sonata in A-major for violin and piano, movements 1 & 2
Beethoven: Sonata in F major, Op. 24 “Spring”
Brahms: Sonata in F-minor, Op. 120, No. 1, movements 1 & 2
Brahms: Sonata in E-minor, Op. 38
Prokofiev: Sonata in D Major, Op. 92, movements 3 & 4
3) Three (3) songs, one in each of the following languages,
to be selected from the following:

Additional M.M.-Performance in Collaborative Piano Requirements
• Students in the M.M. Collaborative Piano degree must take a diagnostic exam in English, Italian, German, and French diction prior to the beginning of their first year in residence. Collaborative pianists are responsible for contacting the Collaborative Piano Coordinator to schedule this exam. If remedial work is deemed necessary in any of these languages, the student will be required to take the appropriate undergraduate diction courses with those credits not applicable to the total graduate credit hour requirement of the degree.
• Students in the M.M. in Collaborative Piano degree must possess language proficiency equivalent to one year of college-level instruction in one of the following languages: Italian, German or French. (Proficiency is defined as receiving a grade of B or higher in previous collegiate study.) Students not possessing the requisite level will need to complete this requirement by the end of the first year of graduate study with credits not applicable to the total graduate credit hour requirement of the degree.
• Comprehensive Examinations
All students must pass a final oral examination in their major field, as well as comprehensive exams in music theory, music history, and sight-singing. All written exams are given four times per year; the oral exam is taken at the end of the course of study, and the sight-singing exam is taken by arrangement. Sample exams and exam outlines are available online.
• International Students:
Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit official results of a test of Englishproficiency. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is the mostfrequently submitted. However, applicants may also submit test results from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Our recommended scores are 213 or higher on the TOEFL computerversion, 80 or higher on the Internet-basedversion (iBT), and 6.0 or higher on the IELTS. Applicantswho have previously attended a high school, college or university forat least two years, whereEnglish is the principal language of instruction and have earned passing grades in English courses may be exempt from an English proficiency exam.
