1.  JOB TITLE: Facilitator (Education and Residential)

2 ORGANISATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Line Manger: Teaching Assistant of Tutor

Liaises with: Learning Programmes and Residential staff

3 MAIN PURPOSES OF ROLE:

To support people with varied and complex disabilities to learn, develop and flourish whilst maintaining their health and wellbeing, so they can reach their full potential at National Star. The Facilitator will support primarily within education sessions, and will also work some hours supporting care needs with the residential environment.

Responsible for:

·  To provide assistance to individuals or groups of students, at the direction of Tutors and Teaching Assistance

·  To assist the education department to establish and maintain a stimulating learning environment

·  To deliver all aspects of personal care in accordance with National Star standards and individual care plans which will include: washing, dressing, personal appearance, toileting, continence support, mouth, nail, and foot care, feeding, and undertaking some medical procedures.

·  To work with people that display challenging behaviour effectively, ensuring their safety at all times and the safety of yourself and others. To receive and work within specific training and advice given on supporting people with complex communication and behaviour

·  To plan, organise and support high quality leisure activities under the direction of your line management.

·  To maintain appropriate professional records to meet college requirements

·  To assist the education department in the preparation of teaching and assessment materials

·  To establish and maintain a high level of customer service for students, parents and other appropriate individuals/groups

·  To encourage and enable students to make full use of learning activities appropriate to extended curriculum.

·  To take part in and contribute to team meetings

·  To support college marketing activities

·  To take part in and evaluate appropriate in-service training and report back as required

·  To fulfil requirements of college Appraisal system and the Education Department’s Review and Development system to support effective working

·  To cooperate with colleagues in the interest of College students

·  To observe the range of college policies

·  To set, observe and require appropriate standards of personal behaviour and presentation.

·  To provide short-term cover for absent staff.

·  To drive College vehicles when appropriate.

·  To act within college health and safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

·  To undertake regular training, updates and professional development, and professional qualifications as appropriate.

·  To fulfil requirements of College Appraisal and Support and Development Systems.

·  To undertake escort duties and where appropriate licence held and training received to drive National Star vehicles.

·  Administer medication to residents in line with policy and procedure, after receiving Designated Person training.

·  To undertake any other reasonable duties requested by your Line Manager, Head/Director of Service or Principal.

Hours of work:

This post will require working regular week day hours within learning programmes. It will also require working a shift pattern of every other weekend within the residential environment.

Person Specification – Facilitator

Essential / Desirable
Previous experience / Experience of working with and supporting a diverse range of people. / Experience of working with young people or people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties
Previous experience working as a learning support in an education environment or previous experience in a care environment
Experience of working in Health or Social Care
Education/Knowledge / Good knowledge of written and spoken English and numeracy at level 2 or equivalent / Level 2 Teaching certificate or equivalent
NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
Midas
Skills / Good application of literacy & numeracy skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and to use own initiative.
Ability to accept direction and undertake instructions.
Good organisational skills.
Ability and understanding to support students at a variety of abilities.
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
Good time management
IT literate - Word & Excel / Experience of databases
