1. HOW DO I BECOME A SELLER?

To sell items at a Chesterfield NCT Nearly New Sale, you need a sellers’ number. You will then keep this number for subsequent sales but you must return a sellers slip immediately after a sale to book for the next one or email prior to each sale to book your place to sell. We restrict the number of sellers at each sale to 80, on a strictly first come first served basis. If you find that you cannot sell after having booked a place you MUST phone to let us know so that we can reallocate the space to someone on our list.

2. HOW DO I LABEL MY ITEMS?

All items for sale must be clearly labelled. Every label must have the following things on it or we cannot sell them.

1. Your sellers number must be large, clear and preferably in a different colour.

2. Price for the item, minimum of £1and then in multiples of 50p.

3. Full description of the item

4. Size or Age group, boy/girl if appropriate.

5. Return or dispose if unsold.

6. Be in 2 parts so part of label stays with item when sold, main label is removed for cashing up.

Example Labels – available from Helen - NNS Coordinator

The label should be made of stiff paper and attached with either secure stitches or safety pins. Do not use staples, or dressmaking pins.Do Not try to stick labels to clothes….they fall off! Please use stiff paper labels for toys and equipment, and attach with sticky tape or masking tape, or use stringed luggage tags. (Please don’t use sticky labels which would deface the item when removed)- please follow these guidelines so that your labels can be removed easily at the cash desks but don't get lost during the sale.

IMPORTANT NOTES

a. The minimum price is £1, we need to continue to improve the quality of items sent to the sale. If you have items which you don’t feel are worth £1 please bag up in multiples (i.e. packs of vests) to the value of £1. Single items priced at less than £1 will not be put out for sale

b. Please only send clothes to the sale that are appropriate for the season:

Jan/Feb sale – Winter/Spring

May sale - Summer

October sale - Autumn/Winter

Out of season clothes (e.g. summer dresses at the October sale) do not sell well and create more work for our volunteers.

3. HOW DO I BAG UP MY ITEMS?

To help the people setting out the items for sale please sort items into these groups : -

# snowsuits/winter coats

# maternity #DVDs

# equipment # toys

# accessories (hats, swim wear etc).#Books

# puzzles

CHILDREN’S CLOTHES: Please put those on hangers separate from the clothes to go on the tables, in the following categories:

# 0 – 6 months (both boys and girls)

# Boys 6 – 12 months# Girls 6 – 12 months

# Boys 1 – 2 years# Girls 1 – 2 years

# Boys 2 – 4 years# Girls 2 – 4 years

# Boys 5 + years# Girls 5 + years

Please bag each group separately and then put into bin liners. We can accept no more than 1 & ½ standard black bin bags full of clothes from each seller. Toys, equipment and snowsuits and winter coats can be brought in addition to this limit.

4. HOW DO I GET MY ITEMS TO THE SALE?

Items must be delivered to the Annunciation Parish Centre between 8am and 9am (latest) on the day of the sale. If you cannot do this then you can ask someone to do it for you or by prior arrangement ask a committee member if they can help you. Please check these details in PATTER as they may change for future sales.

5. HOW DO I CLAIM MY PROCEEDS?

Please give us a stamped addressed envelope with your sellers number on it as you check in your items at the desk. You will then receive a cheque for your proceeds within 2 weeks. If no SAE is provided there will be a delay in receiving your proceeds and the cost of the SAE will be deducted. Remember to put enough postage on your envelope. Some envelopes are fat and heavy as we return your labels to you!

The branch charges a commission of 30% on all items sold at Nearly New Sales for both members and non members. As organising and running the Nearly New Sale is an enormous task undertaken by volunteers we charge a lower commission of 20% for people who help for a minimum of 2 hours (or someone acting on your behalf). We ask that you do not bring children along with you if you are helping.

You can help: on the morning of the sale putting out items from 8am; during the sale or sorting unsold items from 12 - 2pm after the sale. About 40 helpers are needed. Please contact Alison Sweet on 01246 567113 at least one week before the sale.

6. WHAT HAPPENS TO MY UNSOLD ITEMS?

Unsold items are placed in numbered bin liners at the end of the sale and must be collected from the Annunciation between 1.45pm and 2.00pm (latest) on the day of the sale. Any uncollected items will be disposed of. Items marked DISPOSE will be donated to a charity as advertised on the day. All items which have become separated from their label will be displayed on a table, please check if anything of yours is on this table when you come to collect your bags. Any unclaimed items without labels will also be disposed of if not claimed on the day of the sale.

Please double check your returned bags before you leave the Sale room to make sure that everything in them is yours. Sorting and bagging at the end of the sale is very complicated and sometimes mistakes are made.

7. IS THERE ANYTHING NCT CAN’T SELL?

We cannot sell:

third hand goods, car seats, mattresses, fire guards, baby walkers, baby bouncers, breast pumps, riding hats, cycle helmets, mains powered electrical equipment, any clothing with a drawstring neck, any equipment that is more than 3 years old, any toys and equipment which do not have the BS kite mark, the CE mark or the Lion mark to show they meet safety standards, any home-made or knitted toys.

All equipment must have complete instructions. Stair gates, barriers, bed guards, cots etc. must have all the correct fittings, no loose small items such as wing nuts, and no gaps where it would be possible for a baby's head to get caught. Toys must be in good condition with no sharp edges, peeling paint, seams coming apart or loose attachments. We are unable to sell shoes except jellies, football boots, wellies, tap and ballet shoes.

Due to space limitations at the Annunciation we prefer that you sell large items through our newsletter PATTER (For Sale Ads are Free of charge). Contact PATTER

IMPORTANT RULES ON THE SALE OF PRAMS AND BUGGIES

We have been instructed by NCT HQ to bring into force new rules regarding the sale of prams, pushchairs and buggies to comply with major changes in the law relating to the sale of both new and second-hand ‘wheeled child conveyances’. These are a legal requirement and must be obeyed. The new rules refer to all wheeled vehicles designed to carry one or two babies or infants, but does not apply to transporters for carry cots, toys or vehicles such as baby walkers. All wheeled child conveyances must conform to British Standard 7409 (or an equivalent European Standard) and must be permanently marked BS 7409 : 1996 together with the name or trademark of the manufacturer.

A permanent notice on the vehicle must state

"Children must be harnessed in at all times and should never be left unattended. The child should be clear of moving parts whilst making adjustments. This vehicle requires regular maintenance by the user. Overloading, incorrect folding and the use of non-approved accessories may damage or break this vehicle. Read the instructions"

Instructions in English must be supplied with each vehicle. These are to be headed IMPORTANT, KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE and must include instructions relating to operation assembly, use and maintenance.

We are not able to sell any “wheeled child conveyances” at our Nearly New Sale which do not have the correct markings, permanent notice and complete instructions as stated above. We also find that they are not that easy to sell at Nearly New Sales and take up a lot of room, we would suggest that small ads in PATTER or the local press may be more effective. We will not accept these items if they are marked for “dispose”.

8. DISCLAIMER

The Chesterfield Branch of the NCT reserves the right not to put an item out for sale if not in good condition.

Note: Only good quality, clean items are accepted, not "jumble" quality.

The NCT Chesterfield Branch will not be held responsible for any loss or damage.

9. QUALITY CONTROL

We constantly monitor the quality of the items sent to our sales. If we don’t feel an item is of sufficient quality, we will mark its label with a red dot and it will not be put out for sale. If, after the sale, any of your returned items have a red dot on the label, please do not send them to our Nearly New Sales in the future. We hope you will understand that we must keep our customers happy!

10. WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL COME TO BUY AT OUR SALES AS WELL AS SELL

We charge only £1 entrance to the sale for adults (this includes refreshments). We are unable to provide a crèche. Please be aware that the sales are very busy and that small children can get distressed by the jostling and crowds. It is not easy to manoeuvre a buggy round the sale, and there is only limited space for a "buggy park". Because of this, we recommend, if at all possible that you do not bring children to the sale, we do hope you understand.
