Grading and Other Items

I know your grades are very important to you. Therefore, I want to let you know how your grades will be determined. It is the responsibility of both student and parent(s) to view current grades on Edline at least once a week. Most current grades will likely be posted by Monday mornings. The district has mandated that grades be based on two categories: Assessment and Work.

Assessment (Exams, Projects and Essays/Writing Assignments) = 90%

Work (Classwork and Homework) = 10%

______

Exams/Quizzes: These will be given at the required times throughout the semester. There will be district assessments and class assessments. District policy states that students will be allowed the opportunity to retake summative assessments whenever the student obtains a grade of D or below.Students will be required to complete 70 percent of assigned work, including both in class and out of class assignments as well as formative checkpoints prior to the original summative assessments, in order to earn the right for a retake.

Projects/Essays: When a project or essay is assigned, the students will be given some time to work on it in class, and will be required to complete it at home. Students will be given pink slips for missing projects and essays. Pink slips will be filled out by the student, brought home to show the parent, and returned with a parent signature, and most importantly, the completed assignment.

ClassWork:Class work will be worked on and completed in class.

Homework:

  • Students will be given credit for homework if it is returned on time, completed, and accurate.
  • The homework assigned is essential for the students to complete because it prepares them for the assessments.
  • Students are required to read and write daily, both at school and at home. Both will be a part of their work grade.
  • Always check Edline for homework assignments.

Supplies Needed:Optional Classroom Supplies:

  1. Binder with 3 or 5 dividers1. Package of post-it notes
  2. Pens and pencils2. Box of Kleenex
  3. Highlighters
  4. Loose leaf paper (2 packages)
  5. Independent Novel
  6. Composition Notebook

Tardies: Students need to be in their seat when the bell rings, otherwise they are tardy.

Please talk to your child about the grading and tardy procedures because we will be discussing them in class. If you understand these procedures, please sign on the appropriate line below. However if you still have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gabriel
