From Mark Mazzone Email 1/27/17:

Hi Katie. Feel free to ‘cc’ team 109 committee members to let them know of your next meeting. We agreed that it would be a good idea to combine our two groups. We did come up with the following notes/recommendations….some of which I realize may overlap with your group. Tx! Mark

1.  The term ‘Transfer students’ is somewhat ambiguous. Instead, ‘Transfer In’ students and a ‘Transfer Out’ students are more accurate labels/descriptors.

2.  A ‘Transfer In’ student is a fairly static number. However, a ‘Transfer Out’ student is typically a fluid number. This is because a current student can decide to transfer out at any point in time. The opposite is true as well…. a student initially intending to transfer out may decide to graduate from ECC and not transfer.

3.  The term ‘Transfer Services’ for students seems preferable to ‘Transfer Counselor’ or ‘Transfer Office’ because ECC technically does not have transfer counselors or a transfer office.

4.  ECC graduation and persistence rates appear to be most negatively impacted by students enrolled in the following programs: 250 General Studies/ 909 Non Matriculated/ 220 LA Science/ 221 LA Math/ 212 LA Humanities/ 632 Business/ 1035 Criminal Justice Law Enforcement/ 641B Criminal Justice. (See attached statistics summary)

5.  Although all students may utilize transfer services, students who demonstrate the most need for such services are concentrated in the programs listed in #4 above.

Suggestions/Recommendations to address team 109 objectives:

a.  On curriculum flyers, departments can conspicuously list most common 4 year articulation agreements and/or dual admission agreements.

b.  Supply Dual admission applications to academic departments and include Dual admission applications in START orientation packets.

c.  Counselors present transfer basics at START orientations for students enrolled in 201, 212, 220, 221, 250.

d.  Supply admission counselors with transfer material for use during high school consortium visits.

e.  Create course templates by semester for students enrolled in 201, 212, 220, 221, 250.

f.  Provide online ‘accepted student profiles’ for competitive ECC programs (See Dental Hygiene web page for example).

g.  Add question to admissions application for 250 majors to identify intent: (1. Earn degree? 2. Internal Transfer? 3. Undecided?)

h.  **Restructure 250 department to case manage: 2. Internal transfer students and 3. undecided students.**

i.  **Case manage 909 student population**
