Projects

In 1996 May, TRY was started to function for commercial sex workers children. It is an organization born as a tribute to a dream. When Anand Kumar, a student of the Madras School of Social Work, died without realizing his ambition to start a welfare organization for the underprivileged his classmates took up the cause.

This is the story of TRY-To Reach You, an NGO reaching out to the socially, educationally and economically backward section irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Spurred by Anand Kumar’s vision seven of his friends started TRY in May 1996 and registered it in August that year.

From then on, the band of workers has been in the field helping abandoned children, counseling families, creating greater social awareness among slum dwellers on the evils of child labour, drug and alcohol abuse, besides campaigning against AIDS.

For the activists the training at MSSW is translated into action through TRY which functions from a rented premises. Its home for destitute children enjoying love and affection. What began as a small agency is now on the path to becoming an organization with varied capabilities to help the needy and espouse a cause. The projects are funded by the seven friends who contribute a part of their salaries earned from their jobs. They believe in family and society rehabilitation. Institutional remedy order of the day. Deserted women are from broken homes are still given their problems are addressed. But at the time, TRY does not wish to be a dumping ground for the socially neglected. It is an organization where people come and solve problems and are rehabilitated the social mainstream and contribute a useful citizens.
