1.1  Problem Statement

In many countries, the rules of the road are codified, setting out the legal requirements and punishments for breaking them. Most of them are not aware about the traffic regulation in roads. This causes road accidents and injuries most of d time. Mostly students don’t follow road regulation and most of them don’t aware the consequences of not following road safety regulation.

1.2  Background Statement

This study seeks to find out whether UMP's students aware of the traffic regulations in UMP. Nowadays accidents are increasing and the major victims are motorcyclists. Helmets and the helmets use laws have been shown to be effective in reducing head injuries and deaths from motorcycle crashes yet motorcyclists hesitate to use the helmet. There is lack of awareness among the UMP students. Even until last year the students are allowed to wear safety helmet which is used in chemical laboratory to ride around the UMP .Now the UMP management realize that safety helmet is not suitable for the students to ride motorbike around the UMP. The management now strictly makes decision that riders must wear helmet which is specified for motorcyclists. The students who do not have license illegally riding motorbike. Sometimes the students rushing for the classes ignoring and forgetting to wear the helmet. Some students do not want to buckle the helmet belt. There is also no security guards to observe the riders without helmet in certain time.

1.3  Research Objective

1.3.1  To find out the level of traffic regulation among UMP students.

1.4  Research Questions

1.4.1  Do UMP students follow traffic regulation in UMP?

1.4.2  Do UMP students aware important of traffic regulation?

1.5  Definition of Terms

1.5.1 Awareness

Awareness is the state or ability to perceive, to feel, or to be conscious of events, objects or sensory patterns. In this level of consciousness, sense data can be confirmed by an observer without necessarily implying understanding.

The method that we use to conduct our study is by distributing the questionnaire to UMP students. We distribute the questionnaire that contains 15 questions, three sections to sixty students which is five female and ten male students from each year. The survey will take place in UMP non-randomly to the degree students.

1.7  Organization of Chapter

For the introduction chapter, we organize the chapter to the background of study, problem statements, research objectives, research questions, and definition of terms, review of methodology and the organization of chapters. For the chapter review of literature, first is introduction of this chapter and then the three chapters of member's research area. We have three part of research which are causes, precautions, and effect of road accident. We organize the methodology chapter to five part which is the introduction of the chapter, sampling methods, instruments, data analysis and summary.
