$1,000.00 - Mrs. Cora Mack Community Service Scholarship Criteria

To be considered, the potential recipient(s) must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a 2016-17 Graduating Senior from any public high school in the Bowling Green/Warren County area. For example, Bowling Green, Greenwood, South Warren, Warren Central, Warren East, Lighthouse Academy, Beacon Academy, GEO International High School, etc.;
  • Currently reside in the Bowling Green/Warren County area, and plan to enroll in a postsecondary institution (e.g., two-year or four-year) during the fall 2017 semester. Individuals are not eligible to apply if they have been awarded financial assistance that covers all expenses billed by the institution;
  • Be actively involved with community service in the BG/WC community
  • Presently have a minimum cumulative 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA);
  • Attend the NAACP Freedom Fund Gala held October 21, 2017 (Location TBD)

Application package MUST INCLUDE the following items to be considered:

_____A copy of the most recent high school transcript (unofficial or official);

_____Two (2) letters of recommendation from non-relatives, one (1) academic and one (1) character.

  • An academic letter should be written by a teacher, professor, principal, or school counselor.
  • A character letter should be written by an individual such as a mentor, church pastor, work supervisor, or organization/club leader;

_____An essay written on the following prompt:

Martin Luther King, Jr. stated: “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

  • How have you pursued greatness through service in your community?

The essay should be typed in Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced with 1” margins, and should not exceed two (2) pages. Attach the essay to the application form.

Interviews may be conducted for finalists; however, each scholarship recipient will be notified on or before May 17, 2017 (Wednesday).
