National Certificate in Journalism (Introductory)
Level / 3Credits / 66
This qualification is expiring. The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2014.
Purpose
This qualification is to be used at an introductory level and is not a professional journalism qualification. It provides a pathway to enable students to meet the criteria for entry into the National Diploma in Journalism with strands in Magazine, Newspaper, Radio, and Television [Ref: 0326]. The certificate recognises that some students need a ‘staircasing’ opportunity to improve their skills in writing textural English. It has been specifically designed to appeal to Māori with a view to increasing the representation of Māori within the journalism industry.
The core elective in print journalism or radio journalism reflect the major streams available in the diploma.
It is expected that the certificate will be offered by accredited polytechnics, Māori and other private training establishments, or universities on-site, either as a six month full-time course or as part of a longer full-time course.
