ACCESS DOORS AND FRAMES

PART 1 - GENERAL

Specifier Note: Retain or delete this article in all Sections of Project Manual.

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

  1. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SECTION INCLUDES

Specifier Note: Revise to include doors and frames included in the project.

  1. Access doors and frames for floors and walls.

1.3 ALLOWANCES

Specifier Note: Retain products and work included in this Section that are covered by cash or quantity allowance. Do not include amounts. Insert descriptions of items in Part 2 or 3 to provide information affecting the cost of the Work that is not included under the allowance.

  1. Access doors and frames are part of an access door and frame allowance.

1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product.
  2. Include construction details materials, individual components and profiles, and finishes.
  3. Shop Drawings:
  4. Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work.
  5. Detail fabrication and installation of access doors and frames for each type of substrate.
  6. Samples: For each door face material, at least 3 by 5 inches (75 by 125 mm) in size, in specified finish.
  7. Product Schedule: Provide complete access door and frame schedule, including types, locations, sizes, latching or locking provisions, and other data pertinent to installation.

Hard floor surfaces include: Ceramic tiles, marble, terrazzo, concrete, resin, wood, and all hard floors

Flexible floor surfaces include: Vinyl, linoleum, rubber, all flexible floor coverings and some carpets.

1050 Series: Heavy Duty Hard Floor Access and Frame. Typical location external grade paving slabs including granite and concrete

  1. Basis of Design: Recessed floor [access][duct][multipart] covers and frames shall be 1050 Series with [stainless steel][steel] base plate and reinforcement, with[double sealed with socket head securing bolts][unsealed with blanking bolts].
  2. Sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.
  3. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.

2500 Series: Wood Trim Hard Floor Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: Recessed floor [access][duct] covers and frame trims shall be 2500 Series manufactured from stainless steel and fitted with stainless steel securing bolts.
  2. Overall outer frame sizes shall be <insert dimension>.
  3. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.

3500 Series: Small Cover-Hard Floor Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: Recessed floor [access][duct] covers and frames shall be 3500 Series with [aluminum show edges], [stainless steel][steel] base plate and reinforcement, sealed with socket head securing bolts.
  2. Sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.
  3. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.

5000 Series: Light Duty Fire Rated Hard Floor Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: Recessed floor [access][duct][/multipart] covers and frames shall be 5000 Series with [aluminum][stainless steel][brass][colouredge edges], with [stainless steel][steel] base plate and reinforcement, [double sealed with socket head securing bolts][unsealed with blanking bolts].
  2. Sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.
  3. Color: Colouredge colors to be selected by the Architect from the manufacturers full range.
  4. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.

7500 Series: Medium Duty Fire Rated Hard Floor Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: Recessed floor access/duct/multipart* covers and frames shall be 7500 Series with [aluminum][stainless steel][brass][colouredge] edges, with [stainless steel][steel] base plate and reinforcement, [double sealed with socket head securing bolts][unsealed with blanking bolts].
  2. Sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.
  3. Color: Colouredge colors to be selected by the Architect from the manufacturers full range.
  4. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.

HSE 75 Series: Medium Duty Hinged Fire Rated Hard Floor Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: Recessed floor access hatches shall be HSE 75 series, with [aluminum][stainless steel] show edges], hatch to be fitted with concealed multi-link hinges, gas springs, [stainless steel][steel] base plate, reinforcement and double seal, [top and underside release][top release] only.
  2. Sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.
  3. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.

Visedge Series: Flexible Floor Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: [Aluminum][stainless steel] access covers and [duct][multipart] covers and frames shall be VISEDGE series, with continuous PVC securing edge, top edge dirt seal, mechanically jointed corners, double sealed on seating and fitted with securing bolts.
  2. Sizes shall be as indicated on the Drawings.
  3. Covers are to be supplied with <insert number> sets of combined lifting/securing keys.
  4. Optional Accessories:
  5. DS Visedge: Edging for pedestrian traffic at junctions of flexible sheeting and hard paving
  6. VR Visedge: Protective perimeter edge for junctions of flexible sheeting and hard paving

Waldor 50 Series: Tiled Wall Access and Frame

  1. Basis of Design: Wall access panels shall be Waldor 50 Series manufactured from stainless steel with a patented concealed hinge and fitted with a [push pull][security lock], the cover and outer frame are to be fitted with a [stainless steel] edge trim.
  2. Door sizes shall be <insert dimension>.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

  1. Examine substrates for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.
  2. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

  1. Covers are supplied ready for installation internally without further preparation. In external locations, or those that may be permanently wet, all aluminum surfaces in contact with concrete should receive two coats of bituminous paint.

3.3 INSTALLATION

  1. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for installing and site work guide for access doors and frames.
  2. Install doors flush with adjacent finish surfaces or recessed to receive finish material.
  3. Tolerances: In Accordance With BS EN 22768-1:1993 - ISO 2768-1: 1989 - Class C.

3.4 ADJUSTING

  1. Adjust doors and hardware, after installation, for proper operation.
  2. Remove and replace doors and frames that are warped, bowed, or otherwise damaged.
