Purpose
This national certificate is designed for trainees who are employed in the screen printing sector of the printing industry, and who are undertaking either a limited training programme or an apprenticeship training programme.
Strands are included in this qualification to recognise specialist knowledge and skills required for the different screen printing processes of flat sheet, fabric (panel) or formed shapes.
Holders of this certificate have been credited with the compulsory unit standards and have met the requirements of the core electives and one of the strands.
Those who have achieved the above requirements are able to make stencils for screen printing, and make ready and print, multicolour (not process) for flat sheet, fabric (panel), or formed shapes production, to specifications and standards as set by industry.
Trainees may have previously completed the National Certificate in Printing (Production Support) (Level 2) with strands in Carton Cut and Crease, Carton Forme Making, Finishing (Carton), Sheet-fed Offset, Reel-fed Printing, Screen Printing, and Formed Shapes (Letterpress/Dry Offset) [Ref:0593]. People who have completed the Screen Printing strand of that qualification will have achieved credit for unit standards required in the core compulsory and core elective sections of this qualification.
Replacement Information
This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Print (Level 3) [Ref: 1822].
This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Printing (Printing – Screen: Fabric – Panel) (Level3) [Ref:0132], the National Certificate in Printing (Printing – Screen: Flat Sheet) (Level3) [Ref:0133], and the National Certificate in Printing (Printing – Screen: Formed Shapes) (Level3) [Ref:0134].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
This qualification will be awarded to people who are credited with the compulsory unit standards and who have met the requirements of the core electives and one of the strands.
Award of NZQF National QualificationsCredit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see exemption table below.

Previous versions of the qualification
Version 2
This qualification was revised and issued as version 2 in January 2004 to take account of changes resulting from the review of the core Printing Production unit standards. Changes included: new unit standard 20058 included in the core compulsory section, and credit totals increased from 122-124 to 127-129.
Version 1 replaced the National Certificate in Printing (Printing – Screen: Flat Sheet) (Level3) [Ref:0133], the National Certificate in Printing (Printing – Screen: Fabric (Panel)) (Level3) [Ref:0132] and the National Certificate in Printing – Screen (Formed Shapes) (Level3) [Ref:0134]. The last date for award of replaced qualifications isDecember2005.
In addition to the qualifications being combined, following the review of Printing unit standards the domain for unit standard 340 changed from Printing – Graphic Pre-press to Printing Production.
